SRK: Will talk to Thackeray if invited

After landing in Mumbai, with huge security at the airport to ensure his safety, Shah Rukh Khan said, "I am proud to be an Indian." He also said that he will talk to the Shiv Sena, if invited. When asked if he would meet Bal Thackeray, he said, "If Bal Thackeray will call me, I will meet him anytime. I enjoy his company."

Shah Rukh Khan said, "I am very proud to be an Indian. If I say anything it will be misconstrued and further turned around, let me not even use big words. I am pro relationship with countries, which was misconstrued. I am what I am because of Mumbai."

Referring to the Shiv Sena's war against him, Khan said, "Let's be patient and talk it out. If I say anything it will be misconstrued and further turned around, let me not even use big words. I am pro relationship with countries, which was misconstrued. I am what I am because of Mumbai."

The Sena has threatened to block the release of SRK's new film, My Name is Khan, because of Khan's comments on Pakistani cricketers.

On Saturday, Sena chief Bal Thackeray wrote in the party's mouthpiece Saamna that the Sena would not stop the screening of My Name is Khan, as threatened earlier. However, Sena leaders later said that Thackeray's editorial was sarcastic, and their threats against the film stand.

Thackeray wrote, "How do we awaken this Congress party? This is how you rule. So go ahead. Let Shah Rukh Khan show his film My Name Is Khan without security. Traitors with the blessings of the Congress go ahead, the Shiv Sena will not block you."

Earlier this week, cinema owners in Mumbai received letters and phonecalls from the Sena, warning them to remove posters publicizing the film. They were also told not to screen the film unless Shah Rukh apologises.

In London, a few days ago, Khan, at a presser, said that was not likely to happen. "What should I retract", he asked, "that I'm an Indian? I think what I said is true of any person from any nation from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, America, England. That's how I think we've all been brought up. You say 'ok, my country is nice, I'm very proud of it, I'm very proud to have been born there and I wish a lot of people come to my country and participate in the goodness of my country.' If that is wrong then I think I need to relook (sic) at what my children are studying right now. I need to even ask people who think the statement is wrong 'do they have an issue with the schools their children are going to?' Because that's what they are being taught also. It's not a stand or a statement against anyone. It's actually, sort of what I individually feel and normally when a film is releasing - and I won't comment on this on a larger scale, because, it's nice for a Hindi film hero who is thought of as an icon to say this, but it scares me to say anything, because our stakes are very high. I'm really sorry. I would like to apologize to Karan Johar (the director), I apologise to Kajol and I'm immensely sorry to all our business partners that because of what I say or what I believe in the film and the work is going to be affected."

Shahrukh Khan 'Touched' by Twitter Fans

King Khan took over New York City earlier this week when he came to promote his new movie "My Name is Khan," with his co-star Kajol, but he was also asked about recently joining Twitter.

And Shahrukh Khan admitted that instead of using Twitter as a social network tool to post short updates about his whereabouts, he uses is to chat with fans who ask him all kinds of questions!

"I'm shy but one night Karan Johartold me to do it so I said ok and I did it. Once I came on I was touched to see that I had so many people following me," SRK revealed.

"I've never had so many questions since I was interrogated at Newark Airport!" he added jokingly in reference to last year's incident when the King of Bollywood, just like his character in "My Name is Khan," was detained at a U.S. airport and questioned for hours.

Well we're happy to see that Shahrukh has not lost his good sense of humor amid all the controversy!

Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol taken for a ride in New York!

Shah Rukh Khan, who was in New York recently to promote his film 'My Name is Khan,' was taken for a ride…luckily it was a ride in a taxi cab arranged by the fun loving folks at MTV Iggy.

It gets even better. He had the ever charming Kajol, his good friend and MNIK co-star, giving him company.

Khan and Kajol flew in to New York on Sunday, January 31. On Monday morning, they rang the opening bell for NASDAQ stock exchange on behalf of Fox Searchlight Pictures who are promoting MNIK in the US.

An endless sequence of long boring interviews followed, during which they were repeatedly asked the same questions. MTV Iggy's crew rescued them from the endless yawn and whisked them away for a wild night through New York's top hot spots.

Khan and Kajol rode a real NYC taxicab with a real NYC cabbie - Erhan from Turkey - who did not bat an eyelid when told Khan and Kajol would be riding his cab for the next two hours.

The cab was rigged with 4 lipstick cameras and 3 kino lights. Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol wore mics. Other than that it was no different from a cab that New Yorkers ride. Well, Ok, maybe the Iggy folks used a deodorizer!

There were no bodyguards, no handlers, no publicists. Once on the road, it didn't take long for Shah Rukh and Kajol to get into the grove, let down their guards and chill!

Khan later tweeted:

too a cab ride with mtv & did a 2 hr interview all over nyc lost track of time so just saying love u all. my name is khan & i am very happy

Stay tuned so as not to miss the interview when it airs on MTV. In the meantime, here is a delightful teaser (Next Post).

Salman backs SRK, Abhishek chips in

Shah Rukh Khan's battle against the Shiv Sena may have been a fairly lonely one so far. Few Bollywood stars or directors have spoken in support of him. But on Friday, it was Salman Khan, who spoke loudly and clearly for SRK. A rift between the two Khans has been acknowledged by both men in the past.

Salman said to NDTV, "These players were coming here to hit balls... why the ruckus? Politics and support should not mix." Salman, who has also said recently that he'd like to buy an IPL team, said if found a good player, he'd buy him, irrespective of his nationality.

Shah Rukh Khan's movie, directed by Karan Johar, is scheduled for release on Friday, February 12. The Shiv Sena has sent letters to Mumbai's cinema-owners warning them not to screen the film. The Sena wants SRK to apologise for stating that Pakistani cricketers should be included in the next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). In London earlier this week, Khan said he would not retract.

In Mumbai, Police Commissioner, D Sivanandan, said, "After Rahul Gandhi's visit, the release of My Name Is Khan is the next big challenge and I've assured producers that we are ready in all ways."

Except for a few comments from actors like Arjun Rampal and Farhan Akhtar, Bollywood's silence over the controversy has been deafening. In fact, Amitabh Bachchan blogged lavish praise for Bal Thackeray earlier this week. On Friday, Abhishek Bachchan tweeted "All that has been happening over the past few days is very unfortunate and sad! I believe that sports, arts & culture should be above politics. My family and I have faced many such incidents in the past. And all I wish for is peace and harmony to prevail over all citizens."

In an interview to NDTV's Barkha Dutt, Jaya Bachchan pointed out that when she faced Raj Thackeray's wrath two years ago for speaking in Hindi at a public event, nobody from Bollywood came to her rescue either.

Kajol, who co-stars in the movie, tweeted on Friday, "Don't worry people, even Chengez Khan can't stop My Name Is Khan release, relax and let all your positive energy flow here."

And Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said, "Shahrukh Khan has said the right thing. The Shiv Sena, Thackeray is wrong, and everyone knows that, and the whole country is against them. What the Sena is doing is against national unity."
