Shah Rukh Khan's metrosexual look in Om Shanti Om item song

A promo for Om Shanti Om just released shows Shah Rukh Khan doing an item song, as an item boy!

His look - long hair, bared clean shaven chest and a perfectly toned body - is metrosexual.

This is the first time Shah Rukh has appeared bare chested in a film and he reportedly worked hard for the 4-pack, or is it 6-pack, abs that he flaunts in the song called Darde disco, a dance number composed by Vishal-Shekhar.

Om Shanti Om vs Saawariya

It is almost certain now ( barring a miracle) that Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Om Shanti Om’ and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Saawariya’ will come together on 'Diwali'.

And the confidence-of the dual 'Diwali' releases comes from the fact that the cinema bookings for both the big-budgeted extravaganzas have begun in Delhi in right earnest.

There is not much clamour for the multiplexes of the capital city of India because all the multiplexes have multiple screens and are equipped to release both the films on the festive occasion. But the scramble is for single screen cinemas because there are hardly any areas in Delhi with more than one single-screen cinema.

With Shah Rukh Khan not having conceded Bhansali’s request to postpone his ‘Om Shanti Om’ it will now be a clash of two big-budget movies on Diwali. ‘Om Shanti Om’ has reportedly cost Rs.35 crores to make. The budget of ‘Saawariya’ is also said to be in the region of Rs. 40-crores.

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan is set to play the lead role in director Rajkumar Hirani's next film

The movie, yet untitled, will be far removed from Hirani’s previous two films of ‘Munnabhai’ series. This time Rajkumar Hirani will take on the modern education system and expose its inadequacies through the film.

Shah Rukh has been confirmed for the lead role in the film. However, the superstar has yet to allot his dates to Hirani.

Sources say Hirani is presently busy with the final draft of the script and other pre-production work of the project.

Once Hirani is through with it, he will finalize the remaining cast.

Hirani says he hopes to start shooting the film in January next year. By then SRK also would have finished the shooting of Shankar’s sci-fi movie Robot.

Lights, Shahrukh, Action!

If Amitabh Bachchan told the nation India is Poised, Shahrukh Khan is urging Indian citizens to take action.

The campaign’s theme was conceived in Rishikesh, says Rahul Kansal, director, The Times Of India Brand, “The India Poised campaign was done at an appropriate time and managed to catch the mood of urban India. It was like a battle cry. The Lead India campaign aims to exhort young Indians to come forward and make India, the India of their dreams.”

Running across eight cities, the campaign started on August 15, 2007 and will continue till September 7, 2007. Within just 15 days the initiative has got 8,000 entries and they’re still coming in. Applications will be scrutinised by a panel of judges and the final eight will have to battle it out in the national final debate.

Says Kansal, “We want to identify a candidate who can fight the elections next year.” After having Amitabh Bachchan flag off the first phase of the campaign, Khan seemed a natural choice to take it further. “Shahrukh embodies the spirit of young Indians and his enthusiasm is contagious,” says Kansal.

Agnello Dias, NCD, JWT, explains, “Unlike the earlier campaign where the location and props were all well-planned, this one was more random. We would be on our way to the shoot and think up the script and props required; that is why you can see things like chai ka glass, crumpled paper and candles being used which are easily available.”

The campaign was shot in five days across Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore. Says Shoojit Sarcar of Red Ice Films, who shot the campaign, “We had buffered for a time of two hours to complete the shoot with Shahrukh, but he didn’t need any retakes and we managed to can his sequence within 25 minutes flat.”

While Khan’s the leading face, the campaign includes Sabrina Lal (sister of Jessica Lal), Javed Akhtar and Abhishek Bachchan besides Nandan Nilekani, Sunil Mittal, Sachin Pilot and Navin Jindal — all of whom have contributed their time to the initiative.

While it remains to be seen whether the winner of Lead India gets to be a part of the government, the campaign has brought together many like-minded people who want to accelerate India’s march towards becoming the next global super-power.

Pakistan chief coach, Islahuddin Siddique, after watching the movie said the players were clearly stirred by the film.

"Some of the things shown in the film are familiar to them and they were impressed by the way Shah Rukh unites his bunch of players into a fighting team who go on to win the World Cup," he told PTI.

Skipper Rehan Butt said the squad derived inspiration from the movie.

"I think the film is very inspiring. The players feel inspired after watching it and it is clear we have to play as a team to do well in this tournament and comeback from the defeat to Japan," Butt said.

Butt also felt that through the film, Shah Rukh has done a lot to popularise hockey as a sport.

Interestingly, a recent survey, carried out by two television, declared Shah Rukh as the most popular Bollywood star in Pakistan.

"I just hope the movie's success also lures companies into sponsoring hockey. The sport is badly in need of sponsorship and glamour," Butt added.

Vice captain, Salman Akbar said the movie was a treat for all the players.

"We just want to repeat the success story shown in the film by playing with unity and spirit. It is a great film," he said.
