Shah Rukh was scheduled to visit the university Jan 23 to hold "interactive sessions" with the varsity students. Noted Urdu poet and lyricist Javed Akhtar and versatile actress and social activist Shabana Azmi were also to accompany him and participate in the interactive sessions.

According to varsity officials, a fresh date for his visit to AMU will be announced later.

More sleepless nights for Shah Rukh!

Shah Rukh is one of the busiest men in Bollywood these days. Even though he is off shooting for any film for now, his schedule is packed. The mighty Khan is caught between two of his dear projects. While at one hand he has promotional plans lined up for ‘My Name is Khan’, he also has to concentrate on his IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders.

Shah Rukh went through the same situation last year when ‘Billu’ released. The same year, his IPL team’s performance dropped too. Apparently, SRK couldn’t give enough time to any of the projects and so, both failed. He was reported to be losing sleep over ‘Billu’ and IPL. Interestingly, the release date of ‘My Name Is Khan’ coincides with that of ‘Billu’ (12th Feb). With hardly any days left for the release, it’s about time SRK and Karan Johar kick started the promotional drive.

Also, IPL starts exactly a month after MNIK release (12th March). Forming a team, taking care of their needs, promoting KKR with a promotional video will eat into a lot of King Khan’s time. No wonder then, SRK will experience more sleepless nights in the coming months. But we are sure the actor must have learnt lessons with last year’s debacle and considering the master marketing mind he is, SRK might just find a way to promote both together and effectively. So don’t be surprised if you find KKR team players promoting ‘My Name is Khan’.

Shah Rukh watch in My Name Is Khan from museum, ring from Gauri!!

Shah Rukh Khan, the badshah of bollywood who could have afforded any expensive watch and ring for his character Rizwan Khan in Karan Johar’s upcoming mega-budget flick ‘My Name Is Khan’ opposite Kajol, has worn the ring given by wife Gauri on his wedding.

Sources say that Shah Rukh Khan considers the ring to be very lucky for him as it is associated with his better half Gauri, who has managed his professional life and children so well for such a long period. King Khan considers Gauri as his most auspicious omen, and hence when Karan Johar asked him to model the character of Rizwan Khan on his own, he unhesitatingly preferred Gauri’s ring than any other designer ring in the film.

Even the watch that Rizwan Khan wears in the film is a vintage watch of 1920s taken from the museum of the company that Shah Rukh Khan endorses. King Khan was ethical enough not to wear any other brand in the film and asked for a 1920’s piece from them, and they were gracious enough to supply it for the shooting purposes.

Why Shah Rukh Khan had to wear such an old watch has a story behind it. In fact, Shah Rukh Khan’s character Rizwan Khan receives this watch from his teacher, who in turn had got it as a parting gift from his father. The teacher had given the watch to Rizwan as a mark of affection and love. Hence, to impart a sense of realism, the watch should also belong to that old era.

The film has Shah Rukh Khan playing the character of a person who can not connect easily with others due to his peculiar condition of Asperger’s disease. Due to this problem, Rizwan Khan is detained at an American airport as the security agencies took the inability to be ‘suspicious behavior’ in the wake of 9/11 New York bombing.

The film has been set in the US and has Kajol playing a single mother. The gorgeous lady falls for Shah Rukh Khan’s innocent charms and fights for his rights with the police, security agencies and the society.

The film is being distributed by Fox Star all over the world, which has acquired its rights for a whopping Rs 100 crore. The movie is due for a world wide release on Valentine Day, 12th February.

Barack Obama in My Name Is Khan

How did you bag the role of MNIK?
Apparently, Karan (Johar) was familiar with my parody of Obama on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. On the sets, I’d heard that Forest Whitaker had expressed a desire to do this role. But the schedule of another film had spilled over and that’s when Karan went back to casting me.

Did you know about Karan Johar, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol when you were offered this role?
I wasn’t familiar with Karan, SRK or Kajol. It was a fantastic experience for me on so many levels. As a director, Karan was a joy to work with because he knew exactly what he wanted, and yet was open to my ideas. He created an environment that allowed all of us to be free in our creative process. SRK was absolutely wonderful! He has an eye like a hawk and keeps tracks of every detail. He’s a talented actor, he’s approachable, knows what he wants as well, and it was also very clear that all three were quite passionate about their roles. Kajol absolutely took my breath away. She’s stunningly beautiful, talented and a joy to work with. The writer, Shibani (Bathija), was also present at all times. When I first read the script, I was so deeply moved and taken by its numerous messages about the importance of our humanity, and most importantly, it speaks about the power of love! The MNIK team has been very professional.

What was your reaction to SRK’s Newark airport incident that made international headlines?
I was very disappointed with what SRK experienced at the airport. We’re living in times where the levels of fear can sometimes spill over into paranoia. Here’s a man who is an international superstar, being detained for an excessive amount of time at an airport in the United States. It had to be very upsetting for him. Imagine Oprah (Winfrey) being detained at an airport in India for a long time, during a kind of interrogation.

Have you been to India? Do you come down for the premiere of MNIK?
I’ve never been to India and I’d love to experience it. As far as I know, I won’t be at the premiere there.
