"Shah Rukh Khan Boulevard"

He is not a brand ambassador or celebrity endorser. Shah Rukh Khan is seriously involved financially and creatively in the design and development of Shah Rukh Khan Boulevard in Ras Al Khaimah, one of the UAE’s seven emirates.

We had reported this a month ago. And today (October 5), at a press conference at the Intercontinental Hotel, Dubai Festival City, the star confirmed that he is venturing into real estate development in collaboration with UAE-based TSA Group.

Looking dapper and very business-like in a dark suit, Shah Rukh spoke passionately about the lifestyle he wants to offer through this beachfront project located on Dana Island in Ras Al Khaimah. He thanked the Ras Al Khaimah government and master developer Rakeen for supporting and facilitating his first project.

“When I was growing up, my parents gave me love and a good education. But we never owned a house. That is why I have a fetish for living spaces. My house is important to me because it makes me feel whole and be in touch with myself. And I want to be able to give this feeling to all those who buy homes in my project,” he said.

“Like my films, this project will have romance and creativity. But my foremost objective is to provide a space that offers an affordable, safe, healthy and happy lifestyle for families,” he added.

With his usual wit and charm, SRK answered a host of questions including the kind of bathtubs he plans to provide. “I will come free with the bathtubs. I promise you I will be in them every Saturday morning, naked,” he quipped.

To a question regarding delayed projects and ill-treatment of construction workers, he firmly replied, “I will never associate myself with anything that hurts anybody. I have had many offers from other companies but I chose this one because I know they will deliver on their promises.”

Shah Rukh said that he invited celebrity architect Tony Ashai to see his home, Mannat, before they began working on the design. “My home is not ostentatious. My wife and I want it to be a space that allows us to develop the personality of our family. But the homes we design will not be replicas of Mannat. We want to provide a space to people where they can realise their own mannats,” he said.

And yes, SRK would like to have a home himself on the boulevard and also get his star friends to be in the neighbourhood.

Details of the project:

SRK Boulevard is an 8 billion dirham project spread over 3 million square feet on Dana Island, Ras Al Khaimah, scheduled for completion in 2012.

The resort style beachfront project has been designed by Los Angeles-based celebrity designer Tony Ashai with inputs from Shah Rukh.

A glass gateway opens onto the boulevard lined on the left with two-and-a-half-storey houses, dotted with stores, and on the right with 12-storey buildings. This leads to a piazza and boardwalk on the beach. The plan includes high rises with studio, one and two bedroom apartments, townhouses, two SRK signature towers (with one apartment per floor, each with its own lift), shopping arcades, fitness and sports facilities, beachside cafes and marine activities.

In the evenings, the piazza will be transformed into a sit-in movie theatre with a large screen and Bluetooth-enabled head phones for hire.

Piers leading to an underwater disco and lounge, connected by an underwater tunnel, are among the ‘wild and fantastic plans’ for the boulevard, still in the design stage.

“Shah Rukh is the most involved and creative client I have ever worked with and this project reflects his creativity and energy,” said Ashai. The architect used the word ‘unbelievable’ at least a dozen times to describe the project.

TSA is showcasing the project at stand ZG 20 at Cityscape Dubai from October 6 to 9. Prices will be announced later, but buyers can make bookings with a refundable ‘expression of interest’ payment.

King Khan will now promote Jet Airways on television. The campaign, produced by Red Chillies Entertainment, has got its creative inputs from M&C Saatchi and has been directed by filmmaker, Shekhar Kapur. The advertisement was shot in Mumbai and London.

Jet has rolled out three ads, each of which addresses an economy class flier, a premium class flier and a first class flier, respectively. Out of the three commercials, the economy class one will not be released in India, as it is targeted at the international audience.

Only one ad has been released in India, for first class flyers. The advertisement has Shah Rukh Khan enjoying a nap on a cozy flat bed. He then gets up to find his personal wardrobe in from of him. He puts on a coat and heads off for a private dinner in a personal cabin. A female voiceover informs the viewer that these are the services offered to first class fliers by Jet Airways.

Similarly, the other two campaigns, has Shah Rukh enjoying facilities offered in the respective classes.

The campaign will not use any other media, such as print or radio. The new campaign is specifically designed to promote the Boeing 777 that has 180 degree lie-flat beds in premier class and adjustable headrest and footrest in economy class.

The campaign will be aired on news and special interest channels, such as Travel & Living, in the domestic as well as the international markets, as Jet aims to target business clients. The campaign will run in international markets, such as the Far East, West Asia and the USA.

The Jet Airways account recently shifted to McCann Erickson from M&C Saatchi.

Kolkata: Putting to rest all the speculations regarding Shah Rukh Khan's association with the city's IPL team, CAB President Jagmohan Dalmiya on Saturday said the bollywood star was not disassociating himself from the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Some media reports had claimed that Khan was no more interested in owning the team and was trying to sell it off.

Terming his 30-minute meeting with the 'King Khan' as a "courtesy visit" by Khan, the former BCCI president said, "We are all happy that he came here. He told me that 'we are not leaving Kolkata and are prepared to come back again."

Before meeting with Dalmiya at the Eden Gardens, Khan had also said that he intended to stay with his IPL team.

"I am a Kolkatan from the day we bought Knight Riders," the actor said.

Dalmiya further said they are ready to extend full support to bollywood star.

"If Shah Rukh comes one-and-half step forward, we will go three-fourth. There will be full cooperation from our side. It was a very friendly, very warm and very open talk. Certain things I don't want to talk to you but our discussion was pretty general but not any individual items (ticket sales, arrangement etc)."

About the settlement of about Rs 7.5 crores with regard to the CAB expenses during the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League, Dalmiya said, "There are certain grey areas which have to be sorted out. If the approach is right then there's always a way out. It was so nice of him to come here and discuss the things with us."

Bollywood's King Khan, Shah Rukh, will be the star attraction of the Zee Carnival - a two-day entertainment and lifestyle extravaganza to be held in Singapore next weekend.

Already the Shah Rukh fever is catching on. Apart from his fans among the 200,000-strong Indian expatriate community in Singapore, large crowds are also expected from neighbouring Malaysia.

Shah Rukh has a sizeable fan following in Singapore, thanks to the Indian expatriate community. His photographs often find their way into the lifestyle sections of newspapers here, while a leading daily newspaper recently carried a two-page interview with him.

Not just Indians, but the growing numbers of other Bollywood fans in Singapore had flocked to cinemas when Shah Rukh's two recent blockbusters, "Om Shanti Om" and "Chak De! India" were released here.

At the carnival, Shah Rukh's fans will have a chance to get up close and personal with him.

Bollywood's reigning heart throb will make numerous appearances on both days, spending time interacting with the crowds, signing autographs and allowing his fans to get their photographs taken with him.

Apart from King Khan, the other stars who will make an appearance are mainly from the Zee TV stable, including the host of the "Sa Re Ga Ma Pa" show Aditya Narayan, the show's singers Raja Hasan and Poonam Jatav, Iqbaal Khan and the singing duo, Sharad and Kirti Kelkar, better known by their screen names, Nahar and Chandni.

The Zee event also includes a lifestyle segment showcasing fashion and design trends from across the globe. TV show host and chef Sanjeev Kapoor of "Khana Khazana" fame will be giving cookery demonstrations. That is expected to be a big draw.

The carnival on Oct 11 and 12 is being held at Suntec City, a popular conference and exhibition space in the heart of downtown Singapore. It will be preceded by the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas conference of overseas Indians which concludes a day earlier on Oct 10.

Talking to ET on the sidelines of a Nokia event here on Saturday, Mr Khan said the title of the big-budget special-effects film has been tentatively decided as Ra.one. “We will finalise the script, cast and director for the two medium-budget films by this month,” he said.

Red Chillies also plans to set up a film studio in India on the lines of the Hollywood studios. “This will be one-of-its-kind project in Bollywood. We will require huge space for this. We are yet to finalise the location, but it will not be viable to build this project in Mumbai,” Mr Khan added.
