SRK's expectations from Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi

SRK was last seen in Farah Khan’s Om Shanti Om last year. He will now be seen at the end of the week in Yash Raj Films’ Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. And like most of us, SRK too has a lot of expectations from the film.

“In my career of more then 60 films I have never spoken about my films like this but I genuinely feel that this film is simple yet it makes you smile. It talks about a relationship a certain amount of thrill in it. This film will share all those minor moments in a marriage in a very simple way,” says Shah Rukh.

“This film is about hope and I’m sure this film will show the true meaning of a relationship. I have not had a release for more then a year unfortunately but I am hoping that this one will entertain my fans and audiences … something I have been unable to do for the last 14 months so I’m just hoping for the best,” adds King Khan.

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi is directed by Aditya Chopra. It marks the entry of model Anushka Sharma in Bollywood. It is believed to be set against the background of a dance reality show.

SRK talks about Rab Ne..., his injury and more

SRK on working with newbies, his injured arm, his best buddy Adi and his latest Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi

Since yesterday, Shah Rukh Khan has been busy promoting his flick, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, directed by best buddy Aditya Chopra.

On Eid today, the actor will be doing more media interactions about the film that releases this week. He now wants to talk about happier things having said about what shook Mumbai to the core.

All this while nursing an injury to his arm, which is in a sling...

You suffered an injury on the sets of Dulha Mil Gaya?
Yes, it was during the shoot at Mehboob Studios last week. An action scene was being shot that required me to run. While performing it, I accidentally fell on my arm. I didn't want to rush for medication nor did I tell anything to the producer (Viveck Vaswani) or director (Mudassar Aziz). Just did not want them to feel sad and stall the proceedings further. I sought medical attention only after it was over. I have now finished shooting for Dulha Mil Gaya. I even went to Malaysia for the Datuk award on Saturday. My arm was bandaged. As I was wearing a long-sleeved outfit, it was well hidden.

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi is yet another SRK Yash Raj project.
I don't work with people I'm not comfortable with. There are some leading filmmakers I don't want to work with not even for big money. Adi is one of my closest friends in the industry. He has made three films; I feel he should've made six. But he has been very busy as a producer, so I understand.

Have you noticed a change in Aditya Chopra from Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge to Rab...?
He is more relaxed and happier now. I know him for over 15 years... since Darr, when he was an assistant director. People put a lot of faith in us. All this, while we have been giving the audience what they liked to see, with Rab.. we're showing them what we like.

Rab... is the extraordinary story of ordinary people?
The film is set in a real world. There are no Harley David sons, no Switzerland... just a story of two people. After having enticed you to see Raj, Rahul, Don; in Rab... the exterior has been shed, to show the real thing. Adi wants to tell people that it's okay to be ordinary.

Your female co-stars are getting younger. There was Deepika in OSO and Anoushka in Rab...
These girls have been seeing my film as kids and they are now working with me. I get along with everyone age does not matter. I am dichotomous about saying yes, I am getting older but I feel younger. I never imagined I would be 43 it was something far away. My friends tell me 'you are unique' and I am quite like how I was when I came in my 20s.

What do the young girls tell you?
They tell me that I am the youngest hero they have worked with. In fact, they say I am younger than the young guys. I work with these young girls without any ulterior motives of seducing them. I have so much love for Kareena, Deepika, Priyanka and Anoushka. Priyanka still does not call me by my name. I had crowned her at a beauty pageant. She says 'Sir' or just begins the conversation without taking my name. Nobody calls me uncle except Sush-mita, she tells me I'm very old!

What do you imbibe from the youngsters?
Plenty. The young are well-informed and that gives them a fantastic weapon to deal with an established star like me. Well-informed people are very confident and have an edge over others.

Has this helped you as an actor?

When a newbie says a line in another way, I get taken aback as I don't know how to react. I have learnt immensely from Deepika on Om Shanti Om as well as all the Chak De! India girls. OSO did well; 90 per cent was because of Deepika. At a screening of Rab..., I told Anoushka's parents that Inshallah, the film will do well and out of it, 70-80 per will be because of her.

SRK steps up security

Following the attacks in Mumbai on November 26th, security has been stepped up at all major locations in the country. But its not just famous landmarks that are feeling the threat – superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s sea facing palatial home Mannat has also been given increased security following 26/11.

“Normally there is ample parking space near his home where anyone can park their cars. But since the incident took place there is a lot more police patrolling and no one is allowed to park close to his home,” says a local resident.

“Recently someone tried to park their car but they were asked to move it. No vehicle can be parked for a certain distance all around Mannat. Even the police security provided to SRK has been stepped up. You normally see one or two policemen at the gate. But since the attack there has been a police van perpetually stationed outside his home,” adds another source.

One of the biggest things of worry for SRK is probably the fact that his home faces the sea. And with next to no security or patrolling there, it only seems natural to see SRK want to step up security outside his home.

Ever since the attacks took place, Shah Rukh had remained silent on the situation in the city. Speaking to a channel yesterday, SRK said that all the “aggression and anger shown by the youth of the country was a good thing as long as it could be sustained over a period of time.”

“I believe that the youth today will follow the tenets of Gandhiji but they will be a little more realistic too. Let me be honest, my kids will not turn the other cheek. If someone slaps them they will make sure that the person will say sorry. And I see nothing wrong with it,” said Khan, “But I want to appeal to the youngsters of today that if they don’t step on your toes then don’t spit them in the face. But if they do step on your toes…then I don’t see anything wrong with it!”
