Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan was recently called unpatriotic by the Shiv Sena when he spoke in favour of Pakistani cricket players who were excluded from the Indian Premier League (IPL). In an exclusive conversation with Fareed Zakaria on CNN's Global Public Space, Shah Rukh Khan discussed politics and religion.
Fareed Zakaria: When George Bush introduced Manmohan Singh to his wife, he said, this is the Prime Minister of India, this is the country where 150 million Muslims reside and not one member of al-Qaeda. Why do you think Indian Muslims are so radical? How come they have not succumbed so much? Is there a secret?
Shah Rukh Khan: The secret lies in India, we are more compromising and understanding. This goes for Indians be it Hindus, Muslims, Christians. Indians by nature like people, they compromise and they are understanding.
Shah Rukh Khan was at the center of a controversy recently when Shiv Sena called him unpatriotic and threatened not to allow the release of his film in Mumbai for speaking in support of Pakistani cricketers, who were excluded from the auction for the third edition of the IPL.
