ShahRukh Khan: Dance Saga

Come this Saturday and there will be the big Awards night which is going to be held in Mumbai. These Awards are the ‘Chevrolet Apsara Film and Television Producers Guild Awards Function’, to be held in the Chitrakoot Grounds in Andheri.

The good news is that ShahRukh Khan is scheduled to perform that night with a line of other stars also to perform at the same event.

According to insiders there are performances to be given by Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor,

Arshad Warsi, Vidya Balan etc.

The producer’s guild awards will have thirty different categories of Awards in various categories and there are performances by popular TV stars too on the glitterati night.

As is known ShahRukh has not performed for a long time and this event is going to be a very special one for his fans who have been desperate to see the actor performing live.

ShahRukh had recently come in his friend Karan Johar’s show ‘Lift Kara De’ where he very kindly donated to a family with children needing medical attention, but were not able to do so due to lack of funds.

Shah Rukh MY NAME IS KHAN has Duncan as US President Obama!

Shah Rukh Khan, the Badshah of bollywood who plays Rizwan Khan in Karan Johar’s upcoming film ‘My Name Is Khan’ opposite ravishing Kajol, does not meet the original US President Barack Obama but his impersonator Christopher Duncan.

As it was almost impossible to arrange a real meeting with the US President and to shoot that sequence for his film, Karan Johar decided to use a US actor who was famous for his impersonation of the first black President. In fact, Duncan had already impersonated Obama in popular US shows like Jay Leno and The Jammie Foxx. It was for this sequence that Karan Johar had sought the permission of US security agencies to allow him to shoot on the lawns of White House.

Fortunately for Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar, they were allowed to shoot the sequence and became the first bollywood producer to do so. In the film, Shah Rukh Khan sets out to meet the US president as he believes that it would help him win the love of his life.

Kajol, the gorgeous actress who sizzled with Shah Rukh Khan in movies like ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’ and ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, plays Khan’s love interest in the film. She is a single parent in the film who falls for Shah Rukh Khan due to his charming ways and peculiar conditions.

Shah Rukh Khan’s character of Rizwan Khan suffers from a rare disease of Asperger and has problems in interacting with people. As the film has been set in the post 9/11 New York, the security agencies at an airport in the US apprehend him for questioning and humiliate him.

It is during these interrogations that Shah Rukh Khan delivers the memorable lines of ‘My name is Khan. But I am not a terrorist’. As the US security agencies were suspecting him of being one of the terrorists due to his peculiar diseased condition and surname Khan.

The film is being distributed by Fox star, which expects it to do very well at the box office. Sources say that they have bought the film for a whopping Rs 100 crore and would like to recover as fast as they could from the box office. The movie is due for a world wide release on Valentine day in February.

‘My Name Is Khan’ is very important film for Shah Rukh Khan and could change the course of his bollywood career. This is especially so after Aamir Khan’s ‘3 Idiots’ broke all previous box office records. Now, pressure is on Shah Rukh Khan to show some bigger result with this release, if he wants to maintain his numero uno position in bollywood.

Shah Rukh Khan has got a fan following of 42,739+ on Twitter! He is indeed lucky to get so many fans at one go on Twitter. These fans are not to be taken in the face value but they mean a lot to him. It is this love that makes him King Khan of Bollywood. This is a definitely priceless. In response to this loving gesture by his fans he tweeted “love u all and sorry that replying individually is a bit difficult…but i do read u all.”

However Shah Rukh Khan is only following or is friends with 12 people so far. All of them as of now are from the film industry only. In one his tweets he has written “got to go..have a flight to catch. taking a jet plane..travel in a motorcade and launch an environmentally friendly i 20 hyndai car.ironic” is about the Auto Expo in Delhi.

It seems he is catching up with the Twitter world and is quite a fast learner. Apart from all this one thing is for sure that Shah Rukh has understood the importance of internet and is chanting the mantra of Twitter!

Shah Rukh launches electric version of Hyundai's i10

Bollywood icon Shahrukh Khan, the brand ambassador of car maker Hyundai Motors, Wednesday unveiled the electric version of the
company's i10 model at Pragati Maidan, the venue of the 10th Auto Expo here.

"I was very nostalgic coming to Pragati Maidan. My father used to have a stall here 30 years ago," Khan said at the event, where he also unveiled two other Hyundai models — Genesis Coupe and the i-mode.

Hyundai's marketing and sales director Arvind Saxena said i10's "immense popularity" had inspired his company to come out with an electric version.

"These cars will ensure zero-carbon emissions and help address the concerns of environmentalists," Saxena said, but did not provide any details about the launch of the new model, called the i10 Electric.

The i10 Electric offers dual recharging cycles and would take around five hours to be fully charged, which will enable the car to run for 160 km.

Hyundai sells about 12,000 i10 units a month, compared to 7,000 units of Santro, its flagship model. Incidentally, i10 is priced higher than the Santro.

The company is now planning to expand its network, Saxena said, adding: "We have today spread over 260 cities, and have 286 dealers and 80 sales branches. We plan to expand to 320 cities and 1,340 branches this year."

Shahrukh Khan is getting a pause-in-the-scene like Amitabh in ‘Coolie’

Remember that fatal accident in 1983 when the nation skipped a heartbeat as their icon Amitabh Bachchan got gravely injured on sets of ‘Coolie’. To pay homage to the legendary actor, Manmohan Desai paused that fateful scene when Big B almost got himself killed….. And that moment, still, remains one of the defining moments of Indian cinema.

In a similar way, Shahrukh Khan is now getting a scene-pause in ‘Dulha Mil Gaya’ where he fractured his shoulder and was seen sporting a plaster almost throughout 2008.

“It was an afterthought. When the film was being edited, they realised that they should do something like this. The scene is in the second half of the film and like in Coolie, here also the scene will be paused so that the viewers know when the accident happened,” cites a source.

However producer and friend Vivek Vaswani has dismissed such rumours, “SRK was injured during the shooting of our film, but we are not planning to do anything special to mark the scene.”

Looks like the makers want to keep it a secret………. or is it just a gimmick and a publicity-stunt? We wonder………..

ShahRukh Khan: Fan Hunt Spree!

After the super show ‘Lift Kara De’ was telecast last week on a popular channel on TV, it was the buzz of the nation where ShahRukh Khan had found his biggest fan by having three of them selling fruit juice and making money. The money of the winner went to a woman who had children to treat and the biggest fan also got a chance to meet the Baadshah on the sets and show of ‘Lift Kara De’ hosted by Karan Johar.

The woman in dire need of money for her children who had osteoporosis was also called on the show and given a sum of Rs 9 lakhs by King Khan for meeting the expenses.The winner was a young girl who was very pleased to meet her idolized actor in real life. She had worked very hard and earned about Rs 1,902 or something to beat the other two contestants who were guys. It sure was a day of woman power.

The other two fans vying to meet ShahRukh but were not able to do so were also given gifts as a token of appreciation by him.Now, this week it is John Abraham who is to find hisbiggest fan on the show and of course through some sort of task given to the short listed three of them.

According to insiders this is going to be one of the best episodes of the show, so keep an eye on this column for more on this front.

Shah Rukh Khan to perform live at awards function after a hiatus

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan who has begun promotions of his ambitious film `My Name is Khan` will perform live at a film awards function after a gap of two years.

The Apsara Producers` Guild awards will be held at Chitrakoot grounds in suburban Mumbai on January eight.

The night will see over 30 awards being presented in categories of films and television.

The mega event will have performances by Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor. Vidya Balan and Arshad Warsi will present a number from their upcoming movie `Ishqiya`. Vivek Oberoi will also perform.

The Television industry is represented in the Best Non-Fiction Series, Best Drama Series (Fiction), Best Director ? Fiction, Best Actress and Best Actor in a Drama Series. The 3 special awards will honour the Best Debutante (Male and Female) for 2009 and the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Kareena Kapoor to start the year with Shahrukh Khan

Last year had its ups and downs for the gorgeous Kareena Kapoor, not only she became style diva and fashion icon, she also delivered two duds in a row Main Aurr Mrs Khanna and Kurbaan. Now, it’s 2010 and the year has a lot of promise.

Basking in the glory of 3 Idiots, Kareena will start the year with her idol Shahrukh Khan. The actress tells a daily, “2010 has a lot of promise. I sincerely wish the Midas touch continues. I will start the year with my idol Shahrukh Khan, with whom I’m travelling to Miami for ‘Ra. 1’”.

So it’s confirmed, Bebo has bagged the sci-fi film ‘Ra. 1’ - SRK’s most ambitious project which he is making for his son Aryan. The movie directed by Anubhav Sinha will boast of some mind-blowing special effects and Shahrukh will play a superhero.

Kareena also has Agent Vinod with beau Saif Ali Khan, and then there is Karan Johar’s Indian version of ‘Stepmom’ for which she’s already shot; both the movies are supposed to release this year. And if all goes well then may be she will star opposite Aamir, once again, in a romantic film by the end of this year.

Music Review: My Name Is Khan

Singer Richa Sharma’s prelude to Sajda – the first track on My Name Is Khan - is the calm before the storm, as right after her, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan rips in with Shankar-Ehsan-Loy’s entire musical troupe – the tabla, the dholak, the chorus – the whole jing bang of their ‘ek-do-teen-chaar’ metered sound, but they've got the heart in place. The song is going to soar on the charts, and how!

Noor-E-Khuda wants to be gospel until Shreya Ghoshal segues into the track at four minutes of enduring both Shankar Mahadevan and Adnan Sami trying to reach out to God in their feeble pop-ish attempt. Must be something about Saraswati being in the ‘kanth’ of a woman; it’s only when Shreya pitches in that the track begins to take a prayer to the skies.

Shafqat Amanat Ali returns to KJo territory with Tere Naina – which oddly sounds so much like Mitwa – the track he sang in Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna. At three minutes, the song heads into a quasi- qawalli mood and makes for interesting listening thereafter.

Rashid Khan’s Allah Hi Raham never really ascends its scale – notching up with each stanza could have made this a ready beckoner. This one does not rise to the occasion, merely chants to it.

The My Name Is Khan theme is operatic alright. James Horner, we can do it too! Rang De Aman Se Aasmaan – wonderful catchphrase, but did it have to be a Rock On! type screamer? Can peace be achieved by crooning into the barrel of a gun when a rose isn’t fitting anymore? I hope this song achieves its transatlantic message across.

The first promise Karan Johar made to us when he embarked on this film is that there would be no song-and-dance routine in it. I hope he keeps his word. These songs should stay in the background – ‘itemzing’ them would be belittling the effort.
