SRK: an actor, a host, a producer, a husband and a father

If you think earning lots of moolah is the only thing on Shah Rukh Khan’s mind, think again.

The actor who already has helped set up a pediatric ward at a city hospital now wants to set up a ward for cancer patients too. "I get embarrassed to talk about such things. The hospital people were kind enough to name the pediatric ward after my mother. I hope to set up a centre for cancer patients later this year," he reveals. But that’s not all, SRK even has plans to set up a hospital.

"That’s my final dream. Though I don’t know when that will be possible. I keep telling my wife that I have to do this and she keeps telling me that I can do it only when I stop doing the other things," he says.
But of course, there’s loads of work to be done too. Besides his role, that of a host in Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hai?, the actor is back at the studios doing what he does best acting!

His two films this year are Billoo Barber and Aditya Chopra’s Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. But there’s no denying the fact that we are seeing a lot of SRK on the small screen than the big one. "It’s not that I am too much on TV, it’s just that there’s lot of TV happening these days. Cinema is no more the only form of entertainment. We are talking about watching films on mobile phones. Five years from now, I may be doing a movie that may be released on cellphones. Does that mean I become smaller or has the reach increased," he questions. And the talk of his big comeback on TV, doesn’t impress SRK much. "This thing of ‘you started with TV and came back to TV...’ I have always been on TV."

But aren’t there too many endorsements, shows, etc that he’s doing on TV? "No, just day before yesterday I was thinking I am doing very less," he smiles the famous dimpled smile. Be it films, TV or cricket, SRK has conquered every pitch. It looks like the name SRK is now synonymous with success. "For success you need to know that you can go wrong and yet go ahead and do it. People who do wrong things, like stealing or murder, have overcome the thought that this is wrong. They have found their justification. Positively, if we apply the same, it will work. As soon as you accept that this can go wrong, the fear of failure decreases. If tomorrow I face failure, I hope I can say I enjoyed failure too," he philosophises.

Astrologers and industry people often talk about the brilliant planetary positions that SRK has been blessed with, so is luck as important for his success? "Giving all the credit to luck takes away from the hard work involved. People will say I got a good show and it’s our luck that the show’s doing well. But there’s a lot of hard work involved here. I am not successful by luck, but because I am in the right place. I am not special. Eight years ago I thought I was, but after that, I think there is a set of audience that likes my work," he states matter-of-factly.

And despite spending so many years in the industry, Shah Rukh thrives on one thing, "Giving a perfect shot. Be it in films or TV. For example, when I get the timing of a joke right. I can live off it for 10-20 days." But hosting is one thing that tires even the super-energetic King Khan. "TV work is very difficult. Especially quiz shows. It’s almost live. Also, there are many factors like unknown contestants, dealing with kids, the 200 lights and after all that, there’s a deadline to adhere to. I can work for 20 hours. I can dance, fight, do press conferences and not get tired, but with this I get tired. Also a show like Kya Aap... needs something from the host. There is a certain responsibility and I never shirk away from responsibilities. But yes, it is tiring and I get a headache at the end of the day. But the problem is when I return home, my kids want me to ask them the same questions again. So I have to sit down and do that," he says.

An actor, a host, a producer, a husband and a father. SRK has many roles, so who’s the real SRK? He says, "Honestly, even I don’t know myself. You keep acting the whole day. You do lot of things that are larger than life. Lines start getting blurred after a point. The closest I came to playing myself was in KBC and now this show. On the show I emote the way I would in real life."

I’m a sportsman at heart: Shah Rukh Khan

Later, after visiting the Mumbai Indians’ dressing room and spending some ten minutes there, he spoke to The Telegraph.

The following are excerpts

First Knight Riders’ defeat seen by him in person

(Grins) When we won the first two matches in a row, (coach) John Buchanan told everybody that lots of cricket remained to be played… I’m a sportsman at heart and if we didn’t lose any match, then I’d feel odd… Of course, it would’ve been nice to again win in Calcutta, but our batting became unstuck at the beginning… I’m sure we’ll come back hard in the next match (on Thursday, in Jaipur).

The level of disappointment

There’s never a low for me… I can never feel low… There are times when my son (Aryan) runs a race but doesn’t come first… I’ve myself lost races… I’ve made flops but that doesn’t take anything away from life. It’s not that I like losing, though… I don’t and my team doesn’t like losing either… But, in sports, you win and lose… You pray for a miracle… Look for that one slice of luck coming your way… But that doesn’t happen… In fact, I believe that sports is the biggest leveller and sports teaches you to lead life… There’ll be good days and bad days.

Reaction to defeats

I feel happy for whoever wins… My parents taught me that I’ve got to be graceful in defeat and gracious in victory… So, I do the same things when I lose, like going over to the opposition dressing room… I wish them well and wish them from the bottom of my heart. I’m a winner because I’ve got this sportsman’s spirit… If you’re mean and sad about your losses, then you can’t enjoy your victories that much… It’s because of this attitude that I can, when we win, jump on the stadium’s roof and shout ‘we won’…

On Ricky Ponting and Brendon McCullum leaving for home

I’ll miss them… The boys will miss them… The team will miss them… They’ve been terrific in the dressing room and on the field… (After a pause) At the end of each match, I’ve been showing the team a dance-step… I showed two tonight as I wasn’t there in Chennai the other evening… I don’t talk cricket with the boys… That’s done by John and the others… I only bring positivity.

Having flown thousands of miles to make it for Tuesday’s match

Yes, it was difficult yaar… I was in London, then I went to Paris… From there back to London and, then, Mumbai before making it here just in time (on a private aircraft)… While it was difficult, I wouldn’t have missed coming to Calcutta for the world… I’ll be off tomorrow (Wednesday) morning as I’ve got to shoot for my TV show (Kya Aap Paanchvi Paas Se Tez Hain?)… Nothing stops me from going to all the Knight Riders’ matches… I do have shooting commitments which were finalised a year in advance but I could finish early and hop on to a private aircraft and land up in Jaipur or Mohali for the second half of the match… I was in London when we played in Chennai and I had to go on the stage… I remember becoming anxious and calling Juhi (Mehta, co-owner)… I told her that I wanted to be with the team and not in London… It’s not that I’m the luck factor or something… The reality is that we’ve got a good team and this team will bounce back.

The organisational bit of the second match at home

Like I said after the first match, we’ll be improving with every game… (Adds laughing) Hopefully, we’ll get everything right by the end of the IPL! I’m sure the spectators found it a nicer experience tonight, though the electronic scoreboard was too dim.

Finally, whether he brought traffic to a halt in Paris too the other day

(Laughs) Well, yes… And, you may not believe it, but there was a group of French girls with a banner which read ‘Korbo, lorbo, jeetbo re’… It was absolutely amazing.

Chak De India wins US Billie Award

The film has been honored with a Billie Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the portrayal of women in sports be it in entertainment or journalism. The awards, named after champion tennis player Billie Jean King, are presented in four categories: breakthrough and innovation, entertainment, journalism and outstanding journalist.

This year the award for entertainment went to Chak De India. Yash Raj, producer of the film said, “The film continues to pay back the faith we had reposed in the movie even when conventional wisdom would have dictated otherwise. To win accolades like this from around the world, especially from places where depictions of women's sport has had a long and established tradition is especially heartening.”

Shimit Amin, director of the film was present to get the award and said, “The reaction to the movie was simply fantastic. You would not believe that this was a foreign audience - comprised of professional writers, critics and industry professionals for the most part - the way they reacted. It just reinforced our belief that the message of the movie and the performances of Shah Rukh Khan and the girls cuts across all boundaries.”

Yash Raj added, “It was an honour to be selected by such a distinguished panel of women's sports historians, journalists and media industry executives. But while we cherish this honour, the greatest reward for the movie was undoubtedly the love and affection that was showered on it by audiences worldwide."

We congratulate the cast and crew for not only making a wonderful film but also an inspiring film that is being recognized for its positive portrayal of women’s sports.

SRK 'waxed' in Paris

It's general knowledge that the English in India and other foreign countries is 'Same-Same but different'. In the sense, in India, we say 'Cat', whereas they say it's 'Kat'. Here we say, 'cheque', they say 'chek', so on and so forth! But there's one name to which not only India, but the whole of the Universe abides by and shall abide till eternity and that's 'Shah Rukh Khan'!

The latest 'victim' of the SRK mania was Paris, a city which experienced a never-before mayhem. The reason? Well, SRK was in France for the unveiling of his wax statue at the Grevin Museum. His wife Gauri Khan and Karan Johar accompanied him.

If you thought that SRK will be a stand-alone in the museum, better think again, coz' he has company from the likes of Marylyn Monroe, Michael Jackson and around 300 odd celebrities. SRK now becomes the third Indian at the museum, the first two being Mother Teresa and Mahatma Gandhi.

Is there anything left for you to accomplish, Mr. Khan? True that 'Impossible Is Nothing'.

Shah Rukh : The Host Rider

Shah Rukh Khan seems to be telling many of his near and dear ones: Be my guest. And most of them are more than willing to attend the cricket matches with him.

Apparently, all the actors who've gone to cheer his team on, have returned impressed with the host that he is.

"He personally looks into everything from the minute you reach the airport – the flight boarding, getting into the bus, a comfortable drive to the hotel and check-in, commuting to the venue, the food and everything. Also, he is extra protective of the ladies who may be travelling – Gauri's friends and actresses, if any," says a close friend of the Khan.

Now, that's our host-rider!

“It is the overseas audience who have made me the star I am.” - SRK

“London is my favourite, favourite place in the world!” Shah Rukh Khan beamed when he collected his Best Actor award for ‘Chak De! India’ at last Saturday’s Zee Cine Awards 2008 in London.

The ‘Bollywood Bafta’ was presented to him by Bollywood’s original diva, Rekha who stunned the sell-out crowd by reciting the rhyme ‘Jack and Jill’ and singing a few lines from the classic Asha Bhosle track, ‘Dil Cheez Kya Hai’ from the film ‘Umrao Jaan’. Khan performed his ‘Om Shanti Om’ number with at least ten other stars on stage. “Why didn’t you call me on stage to dance with you?” Rekha asked Khan. “Oh Rekhaji, we have grown too old for you!” he cheekily replied.

Khan’s win was no surprise: he was nominated twice in the Best Actor’s category for the aforementioned ‘Chak De! India’ and for his blockbuster ‘Om Shanti Om’. Khan also won the first ever ‘Lifestyle Icon’ award, which broke into half when he collected it. The ‘King Khan’ ended by thanking his London fans: “It is the overseas audience who have made me the star I am.”

Shahrukh shines in Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hai

THE MUCH awaited reality show, ’Kya aap paanchvi pass se tez hai’ started at 8pm on Star Plus on April 25 (Friday). The bollywood superstar, Shahrukh Khan, is really a super star whether it’s in movies or on the small screen. The funny one liners, his charisma, his wit – everything was visible in the first episode of the five-crore prize money show. It really is a pleasure to watch King Khan when he is at his best.

Dressed in a casual light blue shirt with a black waist coat, blue jeans, Khan played the part of a school teacher. On a funny note, he said that he always wanted to be a teacher but ended up being an actor. But still, he got a chance to play the role of a teacher in the movie, Mohabbatein. Indeed, his wish came true through ’Kya aap paanchvi pass se tez hai’.

The first contestant of the show was 39-year-old Vedula Ramalaxmi, a PhD in Hindi and an MA gold medalist. The Orrisa based lecturer did not expect the questions to be so tough, yet so simple.

Five kids also participated in the show. The very first question, “A prism has nine edges. True or False?” clearly made her sweat. The baffled gold medalist must have surely thought of going back to school or going through her son’s text books. A series of questions followed and after earning 2,00,000 rupees, Ramalaxmi requested to quit. She had to undergo a lot of embarrassment, as according to the headmaster’s rule, a person wishing to leave the class midway has to call himself a coward, a ’Bhagoda’ and also has to say, “Main paanchvi pass se tez nahi hoon (I’m not sharper than a fifth passed out).”

In the show, three life saving options were also there – taal jhaank, copy and bachao. After answering 10 questions correctly, one question will be asked, ’Sawal paanch crore ka’. If that is answered correctly, the mega prize money belongs to the contestant.

29-year-old Pramod Tripathi was the second contestant of the evening. After answering the first question, the school bell rang, thus ending the show.

Before the credits started, Khan narrated an incident of his school days after he gathered the five young classmates – Shreya, Sreeparna, Dheirya, Milanjeet and Anubhav – who helped the contestants on the show. Anubhav had earlier sung and danced on Khan’s dard-e-disco.

The total of three tiffin breaks were quite irritating for the people watching the show.

In the end, it was a great show hosted by a great personality. The show will be aired on every Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 8pm on Star Plus.

Whether it’s Fauji, Circus, KBC or Kya aap paanchvi pass se tez hai, you can like or dislike any of these serials, but you can’t ignore King Khan. Hope he keeps performing for many more years to come.

Shahrukh tells everything about Billoo Barber

Shah Rukh Khan's home production Billoo Barber directed by Priyadarshan has constantly been in the news mainly for its changes in the cast. With too many speculations doing the rounds, the superstar decided to set the facts straight about Billoo Barber once and for all.

According to SRK, the film is a sweet story of friendship which is quite similar to the bond shared between Krishna and Sudama. Irrfan Khan would be playing the title role of Billoo Barber while Shah Rukh would be seen in an important role in the film. Interestingly a lot of names including Juhi Chawla, Ameesha Patel and Tabu were considered for the part of Irrfan's wife but now it's finally Lara Dutta who has been finalized for that role.

The film which is a remake of a Malayalam film focuses mainly on the life of Irrfan Khan, his wife (Lara) and their two kids. The other cast members apart from Irrfan Khan, SRK and Lara Dutta include Om Puri, Rajpal Yadav and Asrani.

Khan also added that apart from the main cast, the two hot-n-happening beauties of Bollywood Kareena Kapoor and Deepika Padukone would also be seen in a guest appearance in the film.

With such a cast coming together, Billoo Barber is surely one of the keenly anticipated films of this year.

Ronit's men guard SRK

Ronit Roy’s security agency is providing cover to Khan and his entourage during IPL matches

Apart from acting on television, Ronit Roy also owns and runs a security agency, Ace Security and Protection. He is providing the security cover to Shah Rukh Khan and his entourage during the Indian Premier League matches. In the past, Ronit’s agency has worked with several B-Town actors and also managed several events.

A source reveals that Ronit is working in tandem with Shah Rukh’s bodyguard Yaseen on taking care of security matters. “This isn’t the first time he’s worked with Shah Rukh. They have a long association where Ace has worked on providing security for Shah Rukh at many of his events.”

Throwing light on how it works the source adds, “Ronit is not handling ground security. He’s closely working on Shah Rukh and his family’s personal security. This means providing them proper cover and making sure their every move is monitored.

Since Yaseen is Shah Rukh’s personal bodyguard he tells Ronit the mandatory requirements and what kind of security is required. Depending on the scenario and the surroundings the security arrangements change.”

Ronit confirms that his agency is providing cover to Shah Rukh. “Yes my company has a long-standing relation with him. Beyond this I wouldn’t want to say anything.”

While SRK gets ready for his new quiz show, Mumbai Mirror (MM) decided to do a quick GK test with him.

And guess what?

SRK scored 8.5/10!

Heres how:

MM: There is a poem: When you are happy and you know it.... complete the poem.
SRK: Hmmm… I don't know (Right answer: Clap your hands)

MM: How did mountains get formed?
SRK: Some were formed when the earth's crust was folded, some were formed when the crust broke and the parts jutted out.

MM: Why can't we see stars in daytime?
SRK: Because the sun is also a star, the light of the sun is so intense that the white stars cannot be seen; stars show up clearly only against the darkness of the night

MM: Why don't stars fall from the sky?
SRK: They do fall; they are far from the earth. When they fall, it takes a long time to burn out.

MM: Why don't oil and water mix?
SRK: Because water is heavy and oil is light. Therefore they are immiscible. Oil will always float in water even if you shake it hard.

MM: If all rivers empty into the sea why doesn't the sea overflow?
SRK: Water from the sea turns into vapour and rises into the air

MM: 'My very educated mother just showed us nine planets in this sentence'. What does this mean?
SRK: This sentence gives away the names of the nine planets- Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto. Take the first letter of the first nine words of the sentence and you'll know how I got it.

MM: Why has God given us two legs, two hands, two ears, two eyes...but only heart?
SRK: He has given the second one to someone else; one has to go and find it (smiles).

MM: Who started the comic series Tinkle?
SRK: Anant Pai

MM: Name five characters from Tinkle.
SRK: I think that I can name four... Tantri The Mantri, Kaalia The Crow, Shikhari Shambhu (SRK, if you had remembered only Supandi, Naseeruddin Hooja, we wouldn't have deleted half mark here… and you would have scored 9/10).

SRK Unveils Shoppers Stop New Look

'I'd rather watch Paanchvi Paas'

SRK believes the IPL matches won't affect his new show that premieres tomorrow night on Star Plus

On the eve of yet another of his small screen outings, Shah Rukh Khan speaks about his new show, Kya Aap Paanchvi Paas Se Tez Hai?...

The opening of Paanchvi Pass clashes with the IPL matches. Aren’t you worried about the TRPs being low, since the matches have been huge hits?
No. I don’t want to be pompous but people will watch Shah Rukh Khan. To be honest, I’d rather watch Paanchvi Pass.

Why? What’s so special about it?
It’s an awesome concept. There is no stopping Paanchvi Paas. I never make claims like these. It’s really endearing, witty and sweet. It’s a quiz show of class one to class five. If I sit down with you for two minutes and start playing it, I’m sure you’ll end up playing for at least half an hour. How many legs does a butterfly have? Answer that for Rs 5 lakh. Then I’ll you other simple questions like who started the Gregorian calendar and which is the planet closest to Earth? If I tell you the answers, you’ll say, “Arre, I knew the answer to this yaar.” It’s an amazing show that you can sit with kids and watch.

What aspects of it are you particularly charmed by?
The lifelines. Like we had a phone-a-friend in KBC. I am the school teacher, and in my classroom, there are five kids, whose help the contestants can take. I ask a question and you can use three helplines — just like in KBC. The helpline is: You ask the kids, “Can I cheat from you, please?” We’ve had contestants who are MBBS students, IIM graduates and gold medallists. And then we ask them this class one question. It is so simple and they know the answers but there are no multiple choices so they ask these nine-year-olds, “Milindji, Siddharthji, please maano yaar, ae answer bataoge?” And as the teacher, I say, “Okay, you can cheat now.” The beauty of it is that this cheat can go right or wrong. Kids can give a wrong answer too. Like in KBC, you phone a friend, and he or she doesn’t necessarily know the answer.

Are the kids going to be the same on all the shows?
Yes, these five kids have been signed on for one season you cannot keep training new kids.

Was it a deliberate move to not do KBC anymore, and opt for this show instead?
Yes. You know, both my films fell through Robot and the Rajkumar Hirani film, and I had free time on hand. So I called the channel and said, “Let’s shoot KBC,” as I was under contract to do one more season with them. Then, I saw Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader? while in America and I asked them: why don’t we do this instead? And luckily, we found someone in India Airtel who had the rights. So everything fell into place and it just required us to work a little harder for a month before it was all set.

You seem to be enjoying this show more than KBC.
To be very honest, this is more up my alley. I’ve actually exhausted all the quips and jokes I’ve done on KBC. Had this show been done with me first, it would’ve been even more original.

When is your son Aryan coming on the show?
Aryan has just gone to the fifth grade. He’s right for the show but you have to be already in it to come on it. The kids have been chosen from all over India but till the time we selected them, Aryan and his friends used to play with me. I did a lot more rehearsals for this than I did for KBC.

"SRK has some great rules!” - Priyadarshan

Actor Shah Rukh Khan needs to be applauded — not just for his success in films, or then his new found success on the cricket arena, but for his manners on the sets.

Only recently, the man was shooting in Bandra — never mind the chaos, anticipation and high pressure levels at the IPL, the actor was on the sets giving every take his best shot for Priyadarshan’s Billoo Barber .

Now, we obviously landed up there. And Priyan was all praise for his actor. “He is one actor who doesn’t carry his mobile with him for a shot. It’s a brilliant habit, and no actor that I’ve worked with so far has managed to do that. They are addicted to their cell phones, but SRK has some great rules!” he says.

So, while Karan Johar and Farah Khan may constantly complain about Shah Rukh not replying to SMSes or answering calls, it looks like these diligent spots on the Khan leopard are going to be hard to change.

SRK's cheerleaders get a makeover

Shah Rukh Khan’s cheerleaders will now sport Manish Malhotra’s ensembles; Ganesh Hegde’s outfits have been junked

Designer Manish Malhotra and Gauri Khan (Shah Rukh’s wife) have decided to re-style the cheerleaders of Shah Rukh Khan’s Kolkata Knight Riders.

Says B-Town’s favourite designer, “I was very unhappy with the gold outfits worn by the cheerleaders earlier during the Bangalore and Kolkata matches.

They have been designed by Ganesh Hegde. Gauri and I were discussing the outfits and we thought that the cheerleaders should look sportier.

Now I am re-designing new outfits for them before the next match.” Kolkatta Knight Riders are playing their next match on April 26, in Chennai, where they play Chennai Superstars.

Manish elaborates, “The outfits worn by the cheerleaders should look cool and racy. Earlier they were wearing gold skirts and tops but I want to design black T-Shirts and shorts in complete black with a gold emblem; that will look trendier.

The gold skirts worn earlier were taken from the music video which Ganesh had conceptualised and directed.”

Manish along with Anahita Shroff Adjania (and Reebok and Velmont) have designed the outfits worn by the Kolkata Knight Riders cricketers. Manish is all praise for Shah Rukh for his visualization and creative inputs.

“Shah Rukh has been involved in the minutest of detailing. He has an eye for details and is very passionate about whatever he does. The maximum credit of the cricketers’ outfits goes to Shah Rukh. The black and gold was his idea as it’s the philosophy of the Knight Riders.”

Manish adds that working costume details with Shah Rukh was exacting, “There were meetings galore; we even showed a storyboard to him. He had sent an email of the story and the emblem.

The fabrics and shoes were in collaboration with Velmont and Reebok. Anahita and I have done the formals — the black and charcoal grey blazers and pants. I had never worked with Belmont and I learnt a lot in the three months that we worked together. I

want to be versatile. The outfits look smart, stylish and glamorous with gold helmets and pads. Cricket just got more glamorous.”

King Khan goes Missing!

After delivering back-to-back hits at Bangalore and Kolkata by leading from the wings, Shah Rukh Khan is letting his Kolkata Knight Riders fend for themselves.

Against Team Chennai in their match this Saturday at Chennai’s M A Chidambaram Stadium. SRK, who is reckoned to be the lucky mascot for his team, was in the stands orchestrating the Kolkata Knight Riders’ successes against Vijay Mallya’s Royal Challengers at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore and against Team Hyderabad at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

But now, he has to give the Chennai IPL match a miss because he is required in London first for an awards show and then in Paris, where a statue of the Bollywood Badshah will be unveiled at the Grevin Wax Muesum. Incidentally, the only other statue of an Indian at this prestigious museum is that of Mahatma Gandhi.

Of the Parisian honour, Shah Rukh smiled and told BT, "It’s got less to do with me and more with the unfolding of Hindi cinema across the globe. After other parts of the world, Bollywood is now hot in France. It’s simply a sign of progress for our cinema."

And as for missing the Saturday match, he said, "Before the IPL began, I had decided to see only the matches being played in Kolkata, Bangalore and Mumbai. My schedule doesn’t permit me the luxury of all this. And my involvement with the players is before and after the match. I sat with my team the day before and gave them moral support and whatever else was required of me. I will miss them on Saturday and vice versa, but the point is they are the real performers. I am just adding to the hoopla by dancing and cheering."

He does not deny, though, that his presence in the stadium is considered a good omen for the Kolkata Knight Riders. "I have heard lots of flattering stuff about my luck factor. By saying this, it’s taking away the credit from my team. Luck is too frivolous a concept that truly dilutes all the hard work people put in. I have always been doing my job. The rest is all God’s blessings," SRK said.

And as for bringing the glam element to IPL, he said, "Just because my friends and I belong to the entertainment industry and, maybe, we grab a lot more eyeballs than others, it can be said we lend the glam quotient. But honestly, we are here because we love the game like everyone else. I will only be involved in things I am passionately interested in."

Shah Rukh Caught in 'Maya Jaal'

One of the most explosive lovemaking scenes ever shot for a Hindi film is now available at the click of a mouse button. Shah Rukh Khan and Deepa Sahi's steamy lovemaking scene from Maya Memsaab is all over the Internet.

When the film released in 1993, the explicit scenes were censored keeping in mind the viewer’s sensibilities. All that was left were a few scenes which suggested that Lalit (SRK) and Maya (Deepa) had slept together. But the recently released scenes on the Internet have left nothing to one's imagination.

Our well-placed source from the industry informed, "The entire sex sequence which was shot between Shah Rukh Khan and Deepa Sahi in Maya Memsaab is on the Internet. It happened on Friday. It is really inexplicable how the previously censored scene has come out fully uncensored on the Internet. Film mein itna sab kuch nahin tha."

When contacted, Deepa Sahi said that she was not aware that the intimate scenes between her and Shah Rukh Khan that were canned by her director husband Ketan Mehta for Maya Memsaab had leaked out. "I am not aware of this. Nobody has told me about this as yet. I think somebody must have downloaded it from the DVD and put it on the Internet," said Deepa.

However, Deepa Sahi also added that no part of the scene had been censored before the release.

She said, "The Censor Board had objected to the scene but then the Revised Committee reviewed it again and we got it to the theatres without any cuts."

But when we told her that we had seen the film when it released and the video on the Internet was far more explicit, Deepa said, "I don't know. I am not going to go on the Internet to checkout."

Ketan Mehta agreed with Deepa's point and said that it's not possible that the Internet scene has more to it than the film. According to him, there were no censor cuts and no scenes were added later.

So, how did the sex scene come out after 15 years? According to Deepa, she is not aware how the sex scene in question went into circulation. However, she also said that she was not surprised that this had happened. Deepa added, "If the scene is there in the film, it is likely that such a thing will come on the Internet. I don't know why there is so much brouhaha about this. I think India was far more liberal in thinking 50 years ago. We seem to have become more regressive over the years. I remember the Revised Committee saying that the scene was very poetic."

We wondered if Shah Rukh Khan was upset over the leaked scene on the Internet. So, we asked Deepa if SRK has called her. Deepa said, "No. Shah Rukh Khan hasn't called me."

Despite us sending a text message to Shah Rukh Khan, he remained unavailable for comment.

About Maya Memsaab

Maya (Deepa Sahi) believes in dreaming big and fulfilling all her physical as well as emotional desires. One day, her father falls down the stairs and breaks his leg. A young country doctor, Dr Charu Das (Farooque Shaikh) comes to treat him. Love blossoms between Maya and Dr. Das and they get married. Slowly, the boredom of a small town, middleclass existence starts becoming oppressive and Maya finds escape in a series of extramarital affairs. Even her extramarital relationships- first with Thakur Rudra Pratap Singh (Raj Babbar) and then with the nephew of the local pharmacist Lalit (Shah Rukh Khan)- at first platonic, then fiercely passionate, end up on a pathetic note, making her realise that adultery can become as banal as a marriage. Unfortunately, she keeps chasing her self-created mirages until she meets a tragic end- suicide.

KING KHAN goes economy class

For those who thought Shah Rukh Khan only travels kingsize — this should be news. Yesterday morning, Shah Rukh travelled to Kolkata in the economy class of Jet Airways and not on a chartered flight as he’s wont to do. His team, the Kolkata Knight Riders, took on the Deccan Chargers and SRK had to be in time for the match. As the first class seats were full, SRK did not mind travelling economy class.

Says a co-passenger, “Shah (as he’s fondly called by close friends, including Farah Khan) flew to Kolkata with his entourage. Since the group was large, SRK gave the ladies the first class seats including his own and asked the guys to do the same.

So while Bhavna Pandey (Chunky’s wife), designer Shabina Khan, Divya Kumar (T-Series Bhushan Kumar’s wife), Neelam Kothari, Seema Khan (Sohail’s wife) and a few other friends of SRK and Gauri sat in first class, SRK along with Karan Johar, Riteish Deshmukh, Farhan Akhtar, Ritesh Sidhwani and Priyadarshan made themselves comfortable in the economy class.”

The co-passenger observes that unlike other stars who behave arrogantly while flying, Shah Rukh was absolutely normal and fuss-free. “Shah Rukh even ate the food served in the economy class without any objections. The other passengers were thrilled and kept asking Shah for autographs and he kept obliging them.”

Gauri wasn’t part of the entourage. The source adds, “Gauri and the kids (Aryan and Suhana) along with Arjun Rampal, Mehr Jessia, Maheep Kapoor and Nandita Mahtani arrived in a private jet.”

Designer Manish Malhotra who was part of Shah Rukh’s group was spotted with two suitcases full of Kolkata Knight Riders’ black-and-gold outfits.

The source says, “Manish gave the outfits to everyone so they could wear them during the match and cheer SRK and his team. Yesterday, the atmosphere at the Eden Gardens stadium was electric as the two teams played to a packed crowd of over 80,000.

Shah Rukh’s entourage stayed at the ITC Hotel Sonar Bangla Sheraton and Towers, Salt Lake City.” Shah Rukh returned to Mumbai today morning by HDIL’s chartered plane.

I believe my victory is God's assurance that I really worked hard: Shah Rukh Khan

After defeating Hyderabad's Deccan Chargers on Sunday at the Eden Gardens, the Kolkata Knight Riders and team owner Shah Rukh Khan was at the peak of their confidence about winning the Indian Premier League (IPL).

"I love winning - whether it's IPL matches or films or a game of carom with my kids or the entire world. I believe my victory is God's assurance that I really worked hard," the superstar said.

"We are the toughest competition for the other seven teams. Why one team at a time-put all the seven teams on one side and see how the Knight Riders battle it out against them," Shah Rukh said on the sidelines of a press conference after Sunday's match.

Does he not get nervous while his Knights are in action?

"Kolkata Knight Riders is my dream personified. I always wanted to be a cricketer. Now it's through my team that I am fulfilling my dream. I am possessive about my team. When my boys are playing I am worried throughout about their comfort. It's like seeing Aryan (son) take part in a race and praying that he wins unhurt."

Did he spend Rs. 2 billion on the team just to fulfil his dream, or has he already started calculating his profits?

"Do I look so intelligent as to count my profit instead of shouting and cheering for my team?" he said with a smile.

"The team is divided into three sections - the cricket part is looked after by my Knights, I look after the entertainment section and my business partner Juhi Chawla and her husband Jay Mehta look after the administrative part. The latter will be the right people to comment on the profit."

How was the experience of playing the first match at Eden Gardens?

"It's fantastic. Only Kolkatans can feel the true spirit of cricket. It's their overwhelming support that no tough pitch and power failure could come in the way of the victory of the Knight Riders."

What is beyond the team motto - "Korbo, Lorbo, Jeetbo" (Do, Fight, Win)?

"The Kolkata Knight Riders are here to teach the world how to believe and win a dream that no one else dares to do. Discipline, dedication and dignity are the three powers that are combined at every stroke of our bat and every throw of our ball," he said.

SRK uncomfortable choosing his heroine

Aditya Chopra has shortlisted three girls for Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi — and none of them knows the others exist! What’s even more odd is that lead actor Shah Rukh Khan, too, doesn’t know who his co-star will be.

Shah Rukh says, “I’m only an actor and do not interfere as far as casting is concerned. Adi has told me that they have selected three girls. He wanted me to choose one but I am not comfortable with that. I have left it to Adi.”

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi marks Aditya’s return as a director after eight years.

A source from the production house (Yash Raj) reveals, “The film has to go on the floors by May 15 to be able to make it to the release date (December 12). Adi has finalised three newcomers who have been put up in different hotels.

They arrive at Yash Raj Studios twice a week at different timings and Adi shoots scenes with them. This has been going on for over two weeks and he is expected to take a call by the month-end.”

Man of the match goes to...

When the 22 yards in the middle caused more agony than ecstasy in the first IPL T20 match at Eden Gardens, you could always turn to the right lower tier of the Club House.

There sat all the King’s Men (and Women) — Kolkata Knight Riders ‘Boss’ Shah Rukh Khan’s friends from Mumbai and Delhi — making the first day first show at Eden a thumping blockbuster. Here’s how King Khan’s latest superhit unfolded on the opening night on Sunday…

3.30pm: As all the galleries filled up steadily — “my films always open big” the Shah Rukh guarantee — the first eight rows of the right end of the lower tier of the Club House saw the main cast appearing. And what a cast! Arjun Rampal, Meher Jessia Rampal, Viveik Oberoi, Gauri Khan, Farhan Akhtar, Riteish Deshmukh, Manish Malhotra, Karan Johar all trooped in under heavy security.

Around 10 minutes later, under even stricter security, the Gandhis — Priyanka and Rahul — walked in, shaking hands with the crowds nearby, very much like one of their political rallies. Once seated in the front row, they were not difficult to spot as the only people not in the Knight Riders’ colours of black-and-gold. He wore a black tee and jeans, she a blue salwar kameez.

4.05pm: The King appears in the stands having led his team on the ground. Shaking hands with Rahul, Shah Rukh sits next to him and pats son Aryan who is completely engrossed with the golden helmet in his hand.

As daughter Suhana settles on his lap and Arjun hands him a baseball cap to counter the blazing heat, SRK turns furious as Gilchrist is not given out, having been caught off Ashok Dinda. He had obviously missed the no ball the delivery before!

4.17pm: As the first Deccan Chargers wicket falls, it’s carnival at the Club House with the whole of Team SRK, barring Rahul and Priyanka, on their feet dancing to his chartbusters.

But after a few minutes when Dinda gets rid of Hyderabad captain V.V.S Laxman, the Gandhi scion joins the King’s men, clapping to the anthemic chants of Korbo lorbo jeetbo.

5pm: The musicians join the party — Pritam, with his flowing tresses, Vishal, with not a blade on his head, and the baap of bling, Bappi Lahiri. Symonds may be calling the shots on the ground but it is SRK and his promised dance of Dard-e-disco that’s getting all the cheers.

There are more Shah Rukh posters across the Eden than those of Sourav, clearly showing where the crowd priorities lie. And the best seats in the house are that in Block B, where people are going berserk not at Ishant’s appeals but at the antics around the adjoining Club House.

5.45pm: Interval time but Shah Rukh has left his seat a tad too late, allowing him to only dance to the last couple of lines of Korbo lorbo jeetbo on the stage in Block J.

The crowd doesn’t mind as wife Gauri makes up for him, dancing in her seat. Karan Johar cheers her on. “It’s absolutely outstanding,” KJo tells Metro. “The energy level in the stadium is truly an experience to watch and remember.”

6.36pm: Sourav plays Shah Rukh’s favourite shot — “the one over the keeper’s head”. Despite the tense situation on the field, SRK keeps cheering, from every single to every wide, from Rang de basanti to Mast kalandar. His neighbours on the front row have changed. Adding some local flavour are Rituparna Sengupta and Usha Uthup.

7.05pm: The lights go off, but the crowds need not worry as SRK gives them a taste of his Deewangi deewangi magic — with all his star friends making some noise just like in the film. The 30 minutes just fly away as Hussey re-emerges to finish off the thrilling win for the Knight Riders with a six and a four.

7.45pm: The crowds are leaving as Shah Rukh enters the greens and hugs his all-time fave cricketer Farookh Engineer, the match referee. And just like the closing credits of Om Shanti Om, King Khan has a dream ending up his sleeve. The crowds rush back as SRK does a victory lap around the Eden. Back in the stands, the star had a new fan in Sana Ganguly, carefully preserving the autograph she had got herself a few minutes back.

We are the winners: King Khan

Shah Rukh Khan's Kolkata Knight Riders play their first match here Sunday and the superstar says that his team "are the declared winners".

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan said: "Being an actor I have always thought everything in larger-than-life perspective. Knight Riders' matches will also be no exception. Being a little tongue-in-cheek, at Eden Gardens, we will exhibit two helmets - an 18-carat gold-plated and a diamond studded one respectively to show the other teams that we are the declared winners. The matches are just child's play for us.’’

"I believe it's my duty to entertain people whether it's in films or in the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches. Though I am not going to dance at the gallery, I will be present at Edens."

Special: Indian Premier League | Comment: IPL – journey into the unknown

According to him, the match will surely be a star-studded affair. "Rani (Mukerji), Bipasha (Basu) and Kareena (Kapoor) have verbally confirmed their presence. With Kareena nowadays we get a Saif Ali Khan for free! So Saif can also be expected. I personally will try to convince John (Abraham) and Karan (Johar) to fly down as well. I have personally invited Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi to come and cheer for us at the Edens," Shah Rukh said.

King Khan is surely doing his bit, while the people Kolkata have already made their plans for the matches. "We have arranged for a procession from Hatibagan in central Kolkata to the Eden Gardens. Twenty belly dancers will dance their way to the ground on a 16-wheeled container trailer," said Arnab Roy, joint secretary of the Shah Rukh Khan Fans Club.

Roy said this is the first time in the history of Edens that supporters will enter the grounds with drums and play them at the gallery. "We will also decorate the gallery with Knight Riders flags, banners and festoons. Shah Rukh has promised to help us deck up the gallery," he added.

Fans and fan clubs of Sourav Ganguly, captain of the Knight Riders, and Shah Rukh have arranged mass screening of all the matches at select places across the city.

Celebs light up inaugural Indian Premier League

Golden-black billboards and posters of the 'Knights' - with their faces painted in gold - are evoking much excitement in all Kolkatans irrespective of age.

Ticket sales for the IPL matches began here Monday. And since then, there have been long queues outside the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) ticket counters every day.

"All the tickets for the first two Knight Riders matches at Edens - on April 20 against Deccan Chargers, and April 29 against Mumbai Indians - are sold out. I am sure tickets for the other five matches will also sell like hot cake once Kolkatans get the taste of the first match at Edens," said CAB joint secretary Amitabha Bandopadhyay.

Out of the 14 matches of the Kolkata Knight Riders, seven will be played at the Eden Gardens ground here.

The first match of the IPL kicked off Friday with the Knight Riders emerging victorious over the Bangalore Royal Challengers at the Chinnasawmy Stadium in Bangalore.

As the team's slogan goes, its all about "Korbo, Lorbo, Jeetbo" (Do, Fight, Win) for the "King's Men".

King Khan overjoyed at his team's victory

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan was nothing but overjoyed as his team Kolkata Knight Riders beat the Bangalore Royal Challengers in the opening match of the Indian Premier League on Friday.

“It’s one of the happiest days of my life and certainly the happiest on a sports field... I couldn’t be happier,” is what SRK told a newspaper said soon after returning to the Windsor after the match.

Reports are that the King Khan was so thrilled he hit the dressing room floor and danced to the theme song -- Korbo, lorbo, jeetbo re.

“What a performance! I mean, look at the way Brendon McCullum batted... An amazing innings... My boys were throwing themselves on the field and, well, it’s just very pleasing,” SRK said.

The team returned to the hotel some 30 minutes after SRK got back and he was at hand to greet them once again.

On Sourav Ganguly, SRK remarked: “He’d told me he was a bit nervous returning to cricket as a captain, but he needn’t have been... You know how Sourav leads...”

As he headed towards his suite to freshen up for a party thrown by Bangalore Royal Challengers owner Vijay Mallya, SRK added: “It does set things up very well for a Super Sunday at the Eden... Indeed, I’m so happy for all our fans...”

On Sunday, Kolkata Knight Riders take on Deccan Chargers at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

The King Khan had gone straight to the stadium after arriving on a private jet in Bangalore. Once at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, he had a one-on-one with each player and member of the support staff.

Shah Rukh Khan and Arjun Rampal bond at IPL

While Shah Rukh Khan being present for the opening IPL match at Bangalore was a foregone conclusion, what surprised many at the stadium and those who were watching it on telly was the presence of Arjun Rampal.

The two actors have bonded well ever since they were seen in DON and OM SHANTI OM. While Arjun was also there for a guest appearance in KABHI ALVIDA NAA KEHNA, King Khan too obliged by appearing for a blink-and-you-would-miss performance in Arjun's home production I SEE YOU.

Now Arjun has extended his friendship with Shah Rukh Khan by supporting his KNIGHT RIDERS team which went on to win the inaugural match. While the two were quite demonstrative about their support for the team and were seen dancing and cheering aloud from their VIP stands, it was a star studded affair with Juhi Chawla, Shilpa Shetty and Gauri Khan too having fun during the proceedings.

A glam studded event, the first match in IPL has turned out to be a smash hit affair and one can expect many more star appearances like these in the matches to follow over the course of next 6 weeks!

Team SRK's Amazing Victory!

Kolkata Knight Riders recorded a massive victory of 140 runs over Bangalore Royal Challengers in the inaugural match of the Indian Premier League here at the Chinnaswami Stadium on Friday.

Set an improbable target of 223 runs in 20 overs, Bangalore batsmen were seen in trouble right from the beginning and the whole team was bundled out for 82 in 15.1 overs.

This was one man show as Kolkata’s opener, New Zealand's Brendon McCullum hammered an unbeaten 158 off just 73 balls with 14 big sixes and nine fours.

None of their batsmen could enter into double figure except Praveen Kumar, who made 18 runs and remained not out.

However, it was interesting to note that Bangalore’s highest scorer was not any batsman but ‘Mr. Extras’, who contributed 19 runs with eight leg-byes and eleven wides.

From Kolkata Knight Riders, pacer Ajit Agarkar was the most successful bowler with three wickets for 25 runs while Ashok Dinda and captain Sourav Ganguly claimed two wickets each for nine and 21 runs, respectively.

Earlier, Rahul Dravid, captain of the Bangalore Royal Challengers won the toss and opted to field but his decision went wrong when the Kolkata batsmen severely punished his bowlers to amass a huge score of 222 runs for three wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

This is the highest individual score by any batsman in Twenty20 cricket.

No other batsman made any significant score as Ricky Ponting (20), Michael Hussey (12) and captain Sourav Ganguly(10) went back to pavilion one after another.

Mohammad Hafeez from Pakistan was unbeaten on five.

Zaheer Khan, A. Noffke and Jacques Kallis claimed one wicket each.

Geo Super gave the live coverage of the match as it obtained the exclusive telecast rights for showing all matches of the tournament, which will continue till June 8.

The commencement of IPL has taken the entire world of cricket by storm. IPL is literally a cricket league but this is in fact the beginning of a revolution which will change the history of cricket.

The opening ceremony was a blend of fireworks, stilt walkers, aerial gymnasts, performers in a bubble and some Bollywood glitter with the presence of Shah Rukh Khan, also the co-owner of the Kolkata team.

Before battle, Mallya takes on SRK

April 18: It is not just a war on the cricket field. Even before the game begins Royal Challengers boss Vijay Mallya has taken on his opponent for Friday's (April 18) match, the King of Bollywood Shahrukh Khan.

Its a battle between two legends in their own right. One is a celebrated liquor baron and the other the King of Bollywood. Vijay Mallya and Shahrukh Khan will be pitted against each other when their teams clash in the inaugural match of cricket's summer slam. The man at the helm of the Royal Challengers has set the war of words alight by taking a jibe at Shahrukh's Kolkata Knight Riders.

Watch: Vijay Mallya takes on SRK

Vijay Mallya said, "Shahrukh Khan is a superstar and I am not. But, his stardom will not count on the cricket field. It will all depend on which team plays a better game and I stand by the fact that we are a good team."

Shahrukh may have not responded to his rival's war cry, however, the commander of his force Sourav Ganguly declared that he is ready for any challenge thrown at him by Dr Vijay Mallya's team. Sourav said, "I have given Rahul a pair of boxing gloves. I don't know about Shahrukh and Vijay."

On a day that holds up most importance to the owners as much as it does to the men who will sweat out at Bangalore's Chinnaswamy stadium. The Indian Premier League will witness a war between figures who will try their level best to cut into each other's popularity. The latest jibe of Dr Mallya may just set the proceedings on a roll for a war between team owners, something that has never been witnessed before in the history of the game.

Triple Shah Rukh bonanza for fans!

Ever since last 'Diwali' and OM SHANTI OM, Shah Rukh Khan fans have been starving to see their favourite hero on screen. They did catch a glimpse of the 'Badshah' gyrating to the 'Break Free' item number for Rakesh Roshan's KRAZZY 4. But that was not enough to satisfy them.

However, their patience is about to be rewarded as Shah Rukh Khan is likely to be seen in three upcoming projects during the current year. The fun begins next month when the much awaited Amitabh Bachchan starrer, BHOOTNATH releases, where SRK has a guest appearance.

The year end will see King Khan teaming up with his DDLJ and MOHABBATEIN director, Aditya Chopra, for the destined to be blockbuster, RAB NE BANA DI JODI. The same month of December will also see Shah Rukh playing himself, that is a superstar in Priyadarshan's BILLO BARBAR.

While on the SRK-Priyan project, a section of the trade feels that the movie is likely to be pre-poned or postponed, in order to avoid a clash with the Yash Raj project, RAB NE BANA DI JODI.

Shah Rukh Khan is known to put his heart and soul completely into whatever he undertakes. The big event which is keeping him really busy these days is the inaugural edition of the IPL- Indian Premiere League which kicks off in Bangalore tomorrow (April 18th)

SRK who is the proud owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders team is going all out to promote his team. In fact, his promotional music video 'Korbo Lorbo Jeetbo Re' is already making the air-waves and now Shah Rukh has gone ahead and even launched a music album called Nokia 2 Hot 2 Cool.

The actor along with music moghul Bhushan Kumar of T-series officially released the music of the album in association with Nokia at a function in Mumbai yesterday.

Speaking on the occasion, King Khan said, “I thought of Nokia because Nokia could connect my 22 players who were diverse but came together in one thought- they hated the thought of losing. T Series was the obvious choice because whenever I think of music, the only company that comes to my mind is T Series and I have a long association with Bhushan Kumar since Chalte Chalte days and recently even with Om Shanti Om”

With the album having some pulsating numbers by Vishal-Shekhar, Bappi Lahiri and Pritam this one surely seems a must- buy for all die-hard SRK fans.

Sports Minister asked Shah Rukh Khan to sponsor a team or a player

Sports Minister MS Gill wants to link Bollywood with sports, which he feels will improve India’s performance at the international arena. He has urged stars to sponsor outstanding sportsperson so that financial resources are not a constraint in their performance.

Speaking to HT, Gill asked Shah Rukh Khan to sponsor a team or a player and inspire Indian sports as he did in his film Chak De India.

“He can begin with sponsoring four women athletes of the Indian relay team. Only Rs 5-10 lakh would be required. I think he can spare that much money for Indian sports.”

The minister said Shah Rukh bought a cricket team at the IPL — the Kolkata Knightriders for a staggering $75.09 million — and though it’s a commercial venture, the star can give something back to the country by sponsoring needy sportsperson.

Gill has specific players for Shah Rukh; for other stars, like Hrithik Roshan, he said they could pick any player to sponsor. “Except cricket or may be tennis, there is no money in any other sports. If Bollywood joins hands with us, the future of other sports would be bright,” he said.

The minister admitted that Indian sportspersons, except those in cricket, don’t get adequate facilities and have to struggle for resources. If the money comes from Bollywood stars, for whom supporting few sportspersons would not be a big deal, the financial crunch can be resolved to some extent.

“It can do to other sports what glamour has done to cricket.”

King Khan ki Ranis

Buzz is that Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukerji will be seen performing for the Kolkata Knight Riders at Shah Rukh Khan’s IPL match in Kolkata on April 20 if the entertainment tax is waived off.

But surprise Surprise! Bengali bombshell the sultry Bipasha Basu has been left out though King Khan was keen to rope her in as she’s very popular in amaader (our) Kolkata!

A source says, “SRK was very keen to take Bips along too but she’s busy with a commitment she made long ago and is not going.

However she’s trying her best to work it out. After all, who wouldn’t want to go and cheer on SRK and his team when almost all of B-Town is planning to turn up there?”
