Shah Rukh and Salman Magic!

The superstars and bosom friends may finally feature together in a potboiler, which is a remake of the Tom Cruise-starrer Jerry Maguire (1996).

If sources are to be believed, the Khans cemented their plans at Amrita Arora's birthday bash, held recently on January 31. The actors danced all night long and even rambled about their 'filmy' plans. As always, an emotional Salman hugged Shah Rukh and expressed his desire to work with the latter.

A guest who was present at the birthday party on condition of anonymity reveals, "Shah Rukh and Salman were stuck together at Amrita's party. They were talking about films, and that's when Salman told Shah Rukh that they must work together."

Interestingly, Salman's younger brother Sohail Khan was seen pitching the project to a major film studio a few days back and sources indicate that he has a ready, bound script of the Jerry Maguire remake. Salman will essay the role of Cuba Gooding Junior (who won an Oscar for the Best Actor in a Supporting Role) and Sohail wants to cast Shah Rukh as the ambitious sports agent. A reliable source informs, "Sohail has just given a proposal to UTV about remaking Jerry Maguire with Salman and Shah Rukh. But the production house is yet to take a call, because Shah Rukh is yet to confirm his presence in the film."

Shah Rukh and Salman, who were last seen in Karan Arjun, became bitter enemies after the latter barged into the sets of Chalte Chalte to meet his former sweetheart Aishwarya Rai. He disrupted the shooting and Aishwarya was eventually replaced by Rani Mukerji for the sake of convenience (and peace) on a film set. The duo again met at Farah Khan's sangeet ceremony on December 8, 2004, and that's when Salman hugged Shah Rukh and they buried the hatchet.

Well, it's clearly play time for these two, but the ball's certainly in Shah Rukh Khan's court now.

SRK chooses Hirani

A showdown with producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra has led Shah Rukh Khan to team up with Rajkumar Hirani as co-producer for an upcoming project. The new project is based on novelist Chetan Bhagat's book 'Five Point Someone'.The actor-director partnership comes after Shah Rukh Khan offered to produce the film for Hirani quite some months ago, which triggered off a not-so-pleasant response from Chopra. Known for being particular about the directors he works with, Chopra straight away sent a letter to King Khan expressing his displeasure at the actor's move.

While Shah Rukh did not react to this immediately, he had a meeting with Hirani last week wherein he convinced the director to come up with his own production banner. Meanwhile the film based on Bhagat's novel will be a joint venture between Hirani's company and Shah Rukh's Red Chillies Entertainment. The shooting of the film is expected to start later this year or early next year after Hirani finishes work on Chopra's production 'Idiot'.

Shah Rukh Khan to play himself

Shah Rukh Khan will soon play himself on the silver screen. In a love story produced by his own banner Red Chillies Entertainment and directed by Priyadarshan, Shah Rukh plays a cameo as himself.

It is for the first time that these two talents have come together. According to Priyadarshan the film will be a complete different genre from what he and Shah Rukh have done in the past. The actor however will appear in the film after the interval.

The shooting for the film is expected to be completed by August 2008. The director is in the process of completing the cast and is very excited to work with Shah Rukh. Priyadarshan is currently working on his film Mere Baap Pehle Aap.

As for now we are all expecting a power packed performance by the duo. High voltage entertainment is on its way …!!

Reality shows are on a constant rise. After the success of Kaun Banega Crorepati 3, Shah Rukh goes ahead to host his next reality show which is on the lines of the US-based show, Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader.

The game show is tentatively titled as Bade Hue Tho Kya Hua - featuring adult contestants who will be questioned on subjects learnt by the children from first to fifth grade. Siddharth Basu, Head of Synergy Adlabs, confirms the news that Shah Rukh would be hosting the show. Synergy Adlabs would produce the reality program. The show was a grand success in US and hence is being re-created in an Indian version.

''I stand to lose my roti, kapda aur makaan...' : SRK

Hindustan Times takes on the King Khan about the latest controversies surrounding him.

"Pay attention to me, you will learn something," said Shah Rukh Khan to a distracted journo in a rather heavy tone. The very next moment he started talking about how concerned he is about his son's safety.

"Today, my son's photograph has appeared in the paper and that concerns me about his security." Trust the man to have enough words for all the controversies around him as well.

Smoking on screen:

Recently, Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss urged Khan to desist from smoking in his films.

"I have been trying to quit smoking in personal life. But it's different when it comes to films. In films, a rape scene, alcohol or guns are not shown to inspire anyone. It becomes the part of the creative process. I believe there should be a leeway instead of a blanket ban on smoking in films."

"I feel blessed that Allah has given me such status and some money that I can felicitate a change in the life of some aspiring sportsmen"

Cricket fever:

Talk about IPL, and Khan gets visibly excited. Ask him if it is gamble, and he refuses bluntly.

"It is big enough money that I can loose my roti, kapda aur makan, but everything is not just business in life," says Khan. Now the franchisee of the Kolkata team, Khan says he has left the details to the experts.

"I have followed my passion for sports. I couldn't pursue my career in soccer because of a back problem. I feel blessed that Allah has given me such status and some money that I can felicitate a change in the life of some aspiring sportsmen. I would call it constructive aggression."

Fresh appeal:

This year Khan will be seen in Aditya Chopra's third directorial venture after Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge and Mohabattein. Tittled Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, Khan will again be seen with a new comer. With last year's Chak De India and Om Shanti Om, this will be Khan's third film, opposite a new girl.

When asked where the Rani Mukerjis and Kajols have gone, he says, "Girls can't handle me for long." He adds, "Besides the director's vision, it's also about dates. It's big enough for a director to have Shah Rukh Khan's dates. With a newcomer around, the filmmaker doesn't have to bother about the dates of any female superstar."

Shah Rukh Khan may shoot in Shimla!

As per our Himachal Pradesh based sources, Shah Rukh Khan is likely to reach the capital city Shimla, early next month. While his program has been kept secret due to security reasons, it may well be a 4-day shooting schedule for an undisclosed project.

Locals tell us that King Khan has been in Shimla on three previous occasions. The first visit was in the late 80s for the Doordarshan serial, FAUJI. He returned in the early 90s for Raj Kanwar's DEEWANA, accompanied by the late Divya Bharti. On that occasion, the famous song, 'Aisee Deewangi' was shot at the famous Naldera Golf Course. His last visit was for Ketan Mehta's MAYA MEMSAAB, and the shooting location was the State Library, located on the historic Ridge. It was shown in the movie as SRK's house.

If things go according to plans and Shah Rukh Khan's program is finalized, it will thus be his fourth visit to the 'Queen Of Hills'.

King Khan Back In Action

Shah Rukh Khan doesn’t like to be unemployed for long. So within days of saying that he has no work on hand, the man is back to doing work enough for two.

“I have just signed a film with Aditya Chopra because he’s making a film after a very long time. I also plan to produce a smaller film with Priyadarshan. There is Karan Johar’s film and then there is IPL. There are so many technicalities that I have to understand and all this is keeping me occupied,” he says, adding, “And yes, I will be back on TV soon and I am also planning an animation movie.”

And where does he get the energy to do so much? “I just need four hours of sleep and I am ready to go. I have always been like this and even my kids are like this. They keep on playing till they fall flat on the bed. For instance, Aryan played a match yesterday and won a silver prize. He waited for me to come back home. I reached after midnight, he relayed the whole story, pressed my feet and he was up the next day at 7 to play basketball!”

And this bundle of energy has now decided to advocate responsible drinking. And if you ask him, drinking is as bad as smoking! “To be very honest, drinking is not good and neither is smoking. Unfortunately, I smoke. And when Mr Ramadoss says that what I am doing is wrong, I agree with him. I don’t want my kids to drink and smoke. I don’t even promote smoking through my films. Even in Don , I am not actually smoking. Every time I am about to light a cigarette, I remind myself that it will kill me. This Don is not scared of anything else but he is scared of smoking his lungs out. But I don’t appreciate someone is trying to curb my creativity by banning smoking,” he says.

And talking about people following his onscreen example, he says, “Do you really think people smoke because I smoke? And if people have to emulate me, why don’t they emulate the hard work I do and what I have become because of that? I feel that too much is being made of too little in this case. There are lots of other actors who smoke. There were other people who were smoking while watching the match that day.”

We then ask him another smokin’ question: Are he and Ajay Devgan still at loggerheads? “Ajay is a very quiet guy. He is a very nice person and the last thing he needs is a question like this, which he is always being asked. I know Kajol very well. We both thought that this question will die a natural death but it did not. Honestly, I and Ajay don’t know each other well enough that we should dislike each other. But we know each other well enough to like and respect each other. Main Geeta pe haath rakhke kasam khata hoon that I have no problems with Ajay Devgan!” he says with a smile.

Shah Rukh Khan has a new message for his fans...

SRK says 'Don't drink and drive'

The superstar as brand ambassador of premium whisky brand Masterstroke launched its 'Don't Drink and Drive Campaign' in the capital on Saturday.

"I am proud that through this campaign I will be able to pass a social message to the youth of today. I don't believe in putting a blanket ban on such things but people should just keep a little bit of control. Overdoing anything, especially drinking, is not good. There should always be some restraint," said Shah Rukh at the launch.

Masterstroke deluxe whisky is the latest brand of liquor company Diageo Radico Distilleries Private Limited, a 50:50 joint venture between Diageo, a leading premium drinks company, and Radico Khaitan Ltd., a fast growing liquor manufacturer in India.

The campaign will initially roll out as a TV commercial featuring Shah Rukh, who recently won the Indian Premium League (IPL) bid for the Kolkata cricket team.

"The commercial aims at giving a solution in case anyone overdoes drinking. We have tried to spread the message in a very subtle manner. All we are saying is that in case you are going out and wish to drink, you should take a taxi or public transport to have a safe drive back home," explained Shah Rukh.

The campaign, especially evocative for the youth, will be aired within a fortnight and be supplemented by various below-the-line activities like sign posts, said Asif Adil, managing director of Diageo Radico Distilleries Private Limited.

"We are trying to educate consumers about responsible consumption of alcohol. Please don't mix drinking and driving," said Abhishek Khaitan, managing director of Diageo Radico.
