Don't invite SRK for Kanpur ODI

Wary of crowd trouble, the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) has asked the BCCI not to invite Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan for the third one-dayer between India and Pakistan in Kanpur on Sunday.

According to the UPCA, the district as well as the police authorities are anticipating huge turnout for the match, which may become uncontrollable because of the star's presence.

UPCA officials said Shah Rukh and some other VIP personalities were invited to the Green Park by BCCI vice-President Rajeev Shukla.

"The Governor and Chief Minister are also coming to watch the match. So we have requested Rajeev Shukla not to invite Shah Rukh or any other VIP for the match. Because it would be difficult for us to control the crowd," an official of UPCA said.

UPCA officials said the BCCI has accepted their request and Shah Rukh may now meet the players from both the sides in Lucknow a day later.

Bollywood King Shah Rukh Khan will be the chief guest at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2007 that opens in Goa on November 23.

The departure from the tradition of getting the honours done by celluloid oldies is conscious, sources in the I&B Ministry, which is co-hosting the festival, told HT. It’s a celebration of the youth brigade’s imprint on Indian cinema through cult films like Chak De, Rang De... and Munnabhai....

SRK has accepted the invitation and will be present at IFFI’s inaugural with the screening of Romanian director Cristian Mungiu’s much acclaimed Four Months, Three Weeks and Two Days that won the top Golden Palm award at the Cannes Festival this year.

Mungiu and his leading lady Ana Maria Marinca will also be present. “It will be a great opening ceremony,” promised IFFI director Neelam Kapur.

For the first time, common viewers will be registered as delegates for a nominal Rs 300. Of the 5,000-6,000 delegates, nearly 1,500 will be from among the public and have access to the conferences and seminars that go with such festivals.

Kapur clarified that the delegates from among the people will be able to see all films screened.

This thing is huge.

In true Bollywood fashion, the story involves comedy, tragedy, family, action, adventure, romance, betrayal, friendship, melodrama, failure, success, death, reincarnation and lots and lots of singing and dancing. The film is as visually dazzling and colourful as an explosion in a Crayola factory.

Shah Rukh Khan stars as Om Prakash Makhija, a callow hopeful in the movie business in the early 1970s.
