The music show by Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan set for Sunday evening has been “postponed indefinitely,” the organisers have confirmed Saturday.
Mohamed Shizleen, who spoke on behalf of Inex Maldives and Arts Solutions, told Haveeru that the show was postponed on Khan’s request due to security issues in the capital Male. The show will be held a week after World Cup 2010 closing set for July 11, he added.
“The show is still planned to be held. But we decided [to postpone it] as Shah requested to postpone it for security reasons,” he said.
“[We] apologise for postponing the show.”
When asked about the security reasons, he said the recent series of gang violence and stabbings were to blame.
Police and personal bodyguards were set to manage Khan’s security.
Tickets already sold at Rf800 for general entry and Rf1,000 for VIP will be refunded, Shizleen added.
Khan was also absent from India’s prestigious AIFA Awards held in Sri Lanka last week.
US rapper Akon’s concert was earlier postponed indefinitely and the government took charge of the Boney M concert, which was also called off at the last minute by the initial organisers.
