Shahrukh's DDLJ remade

Producer HA Rahman, who has earlier made hit Kannada movies like Yajamana and Huchcha, is now all set to remake the Shahrukh Khan-Kajol starrer blockbuster Bollywood movie Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. The movie is tentatively titled as Maduve Mane and Golden star Ganesh has been roped in to play the lead role in the movie, which is expected to go on the floors in January.

The producer wanted to rope in Genelia D’Souza for the female lead, but she could not get her dates. Now, he is considering Kajol’s sister Tanisha and negotiations are going on to sign in her for the movie. Speaking to the Bangalore Times, producer HA Rahman says that DDLJ has been a classic and has set a record by running at a Mumbai theatre for 700 weeks. So he has decided to make it in Kannada.

Presently, HA Rahman is looking out for a director. “We’ll make sure that the Kannada version won’t be as long as the original. Perhaps, that’s because the film will not be a clean copy of DDLJ,” the Bangalore Times quotes him saying. He also makes it clear that Hindi version showed a typical four-days-long Punjabi wedding. But the remake Maduve Mane deals with the traditional Kannada wedding ceremonies, which will go on for two days.

However, according to the producer it is not clear whether actor Ganesh will appear in Raj’s role, which was played by SRK in the original. He says that all the cast and crew of the movie are not decided yet. Presently, dialogues are being written and the movie Maduve Mane will certainly have a local touch.
