"It gives me a high, everytime I sing for SRK" - Sukhwinder Singh

The Shah Rukh-Sukhwinder jodi just clicks. There is something about Shah Rukh Khan that works every time, for both of us.
Some enigmatic, mystical element makes it happen and we hit it off every time we work together. I have only sung four songs for Shah Rukh -- Layi Vi Na Gayee form Chalte Chale, Chaiyya Chaiyya from Dil Se, Chak De from Chak De! India and Dard-e-Disco from Om Shanti Om -- and all of them have created such a furore that it gives me a high every time I sing for him.
I'd like to specially mention that Shah Rukh is one person who acknowledges your hard work and brings out the best in you. He is a reservoir of boundless energy and passion and his enthusiasm is highly infectious. There is some sort of magic that takes over when I sing for SRK.
When we started with Chak De, I thought we were really breaking cinematic grounds in terms of experimenting. We were getting far too innovative. We knew people could relate to the song since it touched every aspect of human life. I saw many documentaries on hockey and read on many sportsman from Dhyan Chand to Dhanraj Pillai.
I didn't focus on hockey per se; I sang the song keeping all national sports in mind. It was about India in totality. It became such a rage with people and almost became like the sports anthem.
I smsed Shah Rukh for the first time in my life and he said it's my voice that does the trick and he hopes he can justify my voice in Dard-e-Disco too. Someone of Shah Rukh Khan's stature saying that to you is such an ego booster.
Chak De has done us proud and worked wonders for the Indian Hockey team. It restored the honour and dignity that hockey truly deserved.
