Shah Rukh adds magic touch to Delhi Half Marathon

Shah Rukh Khan cast a magic spell over the participants of the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon here Sunday morning as he mingled with them freely. Many of them even stopped running just to get a glimpse of the superstar who was there to lend support to the event.

“This is the biggest moment of my life… I got to touch Shah Rukh Khan. I bunked my tuition to participate in the run just to meet him,” Prem Kumar, a Class 12 student of Delhi Public School in R.K. Puram, told IANS.

Said Samita Varma, an HR official: “I am here with my husband since six in the morning for an autograph of Shah Rukh… I just love him and would run the whole of the marathon if he runs with me even for a minute.”

Clad in a black t-shirt and jeans and sporting goggles, the actor was thrilled at the crowd’s response and energy. He, in fact, had to ask the participants to continue running once he was on stage with Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit at Vinay Marg.

“I am very happy to get this opportunity… Events like these bring you together. Sports is an important thing and people should come together and enjoy. I’ve run a 100 or 200 metre race, which was a short distance and I always used to win,” Shah Rukh, who turns 44, told reporters.

“Though I could not run this time because of my shoulder and knee injury, I’ll try to be fit and run next year. Running is a spiritual experience,” he added.

Also present at the run were celebrities like Rahul Bose, Purab Kohli and Simi Garewal.

“We just show this kind of spirit only one day in a year and forget about it on the rest of the 364 days of the year. We should show the same zeal and energy everyday,” said Rahul.

Added Purab Kohli: “I ran the marathon for Friendicoes (SECA), Society for the Eradication of Cruelty to Animals, and completed 21 km in 1 hour, 51 minutes. I have already been preparing for the Mumbai marathon to be held in January and I have been running 18 km in two hours. It feels great to see so many people running together for a cause.”

Shahrukh Khan signs Kareena Kapoor?

Kareena Kapoor is never busy when it comes to her dear Khan, Shahrukh Khan and now speculations are rife that SRK has signed her for his superhero flick, ‘Ra1’.

If this happens, SRK will be seen opposite Bebo after a break of ten years, since they did Asoka together. It’s no news that Kareena can ever say no to Shahrukh, whether it’s doing an item song like ‘Marjaani’ for Billu Barber or being part of his international tour, she is ready. However, reports convey that King Khan has not signed anyone and the thinking process about the casting of the film is on.

In fact, rumours that Kareena’s signing for Danny Boyle-Anurag Kashyap’s venture ‘Bombay Velvet’ are also spreading like wildfire. The actress confirmed that she is keen to do such films as it offers variety to her career graph. For Bombay Velvet, the makers are also trying to rope in Shahrukh for a segment.

Well, powerful Kapoor and strong Khan can set the silver screen on fire!

Kareena and SRK are superheroes

Kareena and SRK were paired with each other in Santosh Sivan’s Asoka in 2001. They will now be reunited as an onscreen pair in Anubhav Sinha’s Ra One, Shah Rukh’s home production.

A source tells us, “Ra One is a science-fiction film set in the future in which Shah Rukh plays a superhero. So he will be seen wearing a cape, his underwear over his pants, flying over skyscrapers and saving the day. Technically, Ra One will be India’s third superhero film, Krishh and Drona being the first two. Ra One is a big budget film with never-before seen special effects.”

About Kareena’s role in the movie, our source said, “An actor and star of Kareena’s stature and caliber will not be happy playing just a glam doll so she has signed because she has been given a substantial role in the film. She is super fit and lean too and can mould herself according to any role. The stunning star will also get to kick some butt after Tashan. Being signed on for Ra One is a big deal for Kareena because it will be one of the most anticipated releases of 2010. She already has KJo’s Stepmom remake. Moreover, working in Ra One will increase her chances of playing the lead in Farah Khan’s Happy New Year. Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone are the other actors who are eyeing the film.”

Ra One is directed by Anubhav Sinha of Dus, Tum Bin and Cash fame. The director has an eye for action and his songs (Dus Bahane, Cash, and Naughty Naughty) are chartbusters. Filming will begin in US in December, followed by a schedule in Mumbai.

Shah Rukh to attend Delhi Half Marathon

Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan will be the star attraction at this year's Delhi Half Marathon to be held on November 1 here.

"Shah Rukh Khan will be coming for the event. He has given his confirmation," Dilip Jayram, COO, Procam Internationals, the promoters of the event, said.

"There will be lot more Bollywood and sports celebrities during the event. We will let you know as the time progresses," he added.

The organisers said it would be mandatory for all the participants in the 'Half Marathon' category to wear a specially designed timing chip on their legs to generate authentic results.

Vivek B Singh, Joint Managing Director of Procam International, said a time certificate would be issued on the basis of the result generated.

"The chip will generate all information about the player like who is he, which country is he from, in which race he is participating, how many breaks he took during the race and his final timing. This whole concept is unique in itself," Singh said.

Hugh Jones, the Technical Director of the event, said the event had been oversubscribed with entries much before its scheduled closing and this is the testimony of the fact that race had become an established brand.

"This is indicative how things have changed for this event in these five years. The race has attracted great athletics and has gained international reputation. The IAAF has conferred Gold Label status to our three races," Jones said.

"A total of 100 elite athletes have confirmed their participation, which include 23 men and 26 women from international circuit and 16 women from India," he said.

Ashok Omar, Medical Director of the race, said to ensure the well being of the participants, six medical stations along the route and one base medical station would be set up to be manned by 120 doctors.

"Besides them, nurses and other support staff will be there to take care in case any medical emergency arises. There will also be seven fully equipped ambulances with ventilators stationed along the route to ensure prompt action. Each station will be made interconnected through cell phones," Omar said.

Elaborating on the arrangements, Singh said there will be a total of 13 water stations along the route to keep the participants hydrated and about 80,000 litres of water will be distributed through these water stations. Around 250 private security guards and 650 volunteers will coordinate with traffic and civil police to ensure smooth conduct of the race.

Shahrukh Khan patches up with Sunny

Bollywood actors Shahrukh Khan and Sunny Deol took 16 years to patch up. What took them so long? Their fight during the making of Yash Chopra's Darr was so fierce that they stopped speaking to each other since then. The good news is that they have finally patched up.

The person responsible for the patch up was Subhash Ghai, who hosted a party on Saturday night. Shahrukh arrived early for the party and was with Karan Johar and friends in one of the private sections. He took Sunny to the private section, headed straight to Shahrukh and reintroduced them.

The actors shook hands and ended up chatting for a long time as if nothing had happened in the past. Sunny left the party early while Shahrukh's friends gather to celebrate his wedding anniversary when the clock struck midnight.

All is well that ends well!

Shah Rukh Khan bear hug floors newbie Shazahn Padamsee!

Shah Rukh Khan, the badshah of bollywood who has always been an unapproachable icon for new aspirants to tinsel town, floored newcomer Shazahn Padamsee by his humble behavior on the sets of a commercial.

When Shazahn Padamsee told King Khan that she had seen his iconic Yashraj Films’ ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’ for the twenty-fifth time, he hugged her. She was ecstatic, unable to believe her luck. Shah Rukh Khan was there to shoot for a commercial under the direction of ace ad filmmaker Shimit Amin, and Shazahn Padamsee was his co star in the advertisement.

Initially, Shazahn was very apprehensive of King Khan’s behavior on the set, as she was yet to make her debut opposite Ranbir Kapoor in upcoming Yashraj Films’ ‘Rocket Singh Salesman of the year’, while Shah Rukh Khan had already been the biggest star of the industry.

However, all of Shazahn’s apprehensions disappeared into thin air when she faced a down- to- earth King Khan on the set of her shooting. Sources present on the set say that they got along with each other like friends and discussions mainly centered on the calm personality of director Shimit Amin.

As Shah Rukh Khan had worked with Shimit in his super hit flick ‘Chak De India’, he was in a better position to assure Shazahn Padamsee about the ace capabilities of the director, who is also directing her in ‘Rocket Singh Salesman of the year’.

It may be recalled that Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Chak De India’ had come at a time when Yashraj Films and Shah Rukh Khan badly needed a hit at the box office to maintain their respective prima donna positions in bollywood. Shimit Amin was the man who had made that possible.

And fortunately for Shazahn Padamsee, the same Shimit Amin will be helming her first project ‘Rocket Singh’ under Yashraj Films banner. If Shazahn could prove her credentials in the film, she would become a favorite with Yashraj and would not need other banners to establish her acting career in bollywood.
